Abstract

A folded map or chart can be inserted and held between the contiguous leaves 3 of the transparent device shown. Pens can be stored in looped formation 1 and used to mark routes etc. on leaves 3. <IMAGE>

Description

PROTECTOR/ORGAN ISE R FOR MAPS & CHARTS This invention relates to an aid to plan the route of a journey.
Sheet maps are very difficult to handle when travelling by car, motorcycle or bicycle. This invention holds the map at the area of interest and allows the journey to be planned.
The travel aid can also be used on a boat, making it possible to take charts or extracts of charts (eg: port entry details) onto the deck. In these circumstances it would also protect the chart from water damage.
The travel aid allows the map or chart to be folded and inserted inside it. A large part of the journey may be seen on one side and may continue onto the other. Using an erasable pen the journey may be traced onto the plastic surface. Any additional information may be written on the surface (directions, points of interest waypoints etc:).
After use, the surface may be wiped clean and the pen stored within it.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Referring to the drawing - the 'aid' consists of a sheet of transparent thermoplastic which is heated and folded around a former.
The integral penholder (1) which has been created by this manufacturing process is then able to receive one or two pens.
The two surfaces coming together (2) are juxtaposed and it is the gap between these which allows the maps/charts to be held.
The two surfaces (2) can be pulled apart enough to slide in the map or chart.
An erasable pen may then be taken out of the integral holder (1) and the journey traced (together with any other information) with the pen by writing on the two surfaces (3).
Radiused corners (4) are incorporated so as to avoid injury to the user in the event of an accident.

Claims (2)

1. A travel aid comprising of a formed section of transparent plastic, capable of displaying and protecting maps/charts and journey in structions. The plastic surfaces may be drawn upon, so as to trace a route using a semi permanent pen, which thus may be re moved after use.
2. A travel aid as in claim 1, with an integral pen holder.
