Abstract
A route finder / planner kit includes a flat rectangular pocket or sleeve of durable, flexible, transparent film, clear enough that, when the pocket is placed over an atlas page or map, text and detail remain visible. A marker pen supplied leaves a clear, dry, continuous bright line on the pocket over the desired route ( through which the now highlighted text and detail are seen) that will not bleed through onto the page or permanently mark the film, will dry quickly, and will wipe off after each use. Ideally the pocket is flat sealed or welded (not just folded) on two adjacent edges 1 and 2 keeping the film in close contact with the page, giving maximum visibility of the page detail with minimum slip. The pocket will trim down on the open edges 3 and 4 to fit a smaller page. A slide on clip 5/6 is supplied to limit any tendency to slip on the page.
Description
240561 6 ROUTE FINDER / PLANNER The invention relates to a re-usable route
finder / planner that would be used in conjunction with paper street or road atlases.
A wide variety of paper street and road atlases are available, (A-Z, Ordnance Survey, A.A.
Michelin, etc.) the majority of which are approximately either AS or AS page size, but can vary down to pocket size, many having considerable detail and information on the page.
However, regardless of size and detail, when used on their own they all suffer from the disadvantage that when the user looks away from the page or puts down the atlas even for a moment, on returning to the atlas, the desired route on the page has to be re-located. The page in use may also have been 'lost', if, as often happens, the page flipped over or the atlas closed.
Frequently users find their route runs off the top, bottom or side of the page, often requiring a jump of many pages backwards or forwards in the atlas to continue the desired route, there is then additional confusion when trying to pick up the correct road or street on the 'new' page.
The object of the invention is to provide a means of making the planned route and/or destination through/in the atlas instantly and clearly visible and easy to follow on the page, and also ensure that the page/e in use are not 'lost', and to achieve this without permanently marking or spoiling the atlas.
The invention consists of part A.... flat, rectangular pocket/s or sleeve/s made from transparent 'film' to slip over the page/e of the planned route in the atlas. (the page/e being sandwiched between the two leaves of the 'film' ). Part B.... marker penis (which may be of known design) with which to trace and highlight the route on the surface of the 'film'.
The transparent pocket or sleeve may be made of polypropylene, p.v.c., polythene or other transparent 'film' with suitable properties, i.e. durable, flexible, ideally with low slip properties on the page, and provided always that the pocket material and the marker are compatible; i. e. the marker being used is capable of leaving a clear, bright, dry, continuous line on the surface of the chosen material, through which the desired route, page detail and text are still visible through the highlighting, and that will not 'bleed through' to the page beneath or permanently mark the film, will dry quickly, and will wipe off clean after each use.
Preferably these transparent 'film' pockets / sleeves are closed on two adjacent edges, ( flat sealed or welded, not just folded, ) the resulting tight 'pocket' stays in closer contact with the page to give maximum visibility of the page detail and reducing slip on the page. The pocket can, if required, be trimmed down on either or both remaining 'open' edges to fit the size of the users atlas page. An additional feature of a "rained surface on the 'pocket' could reduce possible glare or reflection.
The inclusion of separate 'slide' or 'snap on' clip/e, ( could be of known design) which may be placed in a convenient position over the edge of the pocket/s and page/e would further limit any tendency for the pocket to slip on the page, and also act as an additional marker to identify the page/e in use.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the flat surface view or 'plan' of the pocket closed on two adjacent edges, I and 2 ( flat sealed or welded, not just folded) Figure 2 shows 'open edges' of the pocket 'leaves' 3 and 4 parted to enable it to be slipped over the atlas page.
Figure 3 shows clip 5 positioned over the pocket edge to further limit any possible movement on the page.
Figure 4 shows the 'pocket' partly positioned over the atlas page, text and page detail is still clearly visible through the 'film'.
Figure 5 shows example of a 'slide on' clip 'face view'.
Figure 6 shows side view of clip.
Figure 7 shows example of marker pen As shown in figure 1 the route finder / planner 'kit' comprises a flat rectangular 'pocket' created by sealing or welding together two leaves of flexible transparent 'film' along adjacent edges 1 and 2, the resulting 'pocket' then has two adjacent 'open' edges 3 and 4, which when parted as in Fig 2. can be slipped over the required page of a road or street atlas.
When the transparent 'pocket' is placed over the page of the atlas, the atlas detail is still clearly visible through the 'film' as in Fig 4.
Using the brightly coloured, quick drying marker pen supplied Fig 7. the desired route is clearly traced on the surface of the pocket making it instantly and highly visible.
The atlas page being 'encapsulated' within the 'pocket' can be instantly located even if the atlas pages flip over, and the addition of the 'slide on' clip Fig. 5 in a convenient position over the edge of the pocket also assists in this respect whilst achieving its main purpose of limiting arm tendency for the pocket to slip on the page.
It is important that the pocket material and the marker pen are compatible, i.e. if the correct combination is used, the marker will leave a clear, bright, dry, continuous line on the surface of the 'film' through which the text and detail of the atlas are still visible, and the marker 'ink' will wipe off after each use.
Claims (12)
- I A route finder / planner 'kit' comprising (A) a sleeve or pocket fabricated from a flexible transparent 'film' closed along one or more edges, and capable of being marked on its surface with (B) a quick drying marker pen.
- 2 A route finder / planner 'kit' as claimed in claim 1 where the marker pen is coloured and where the sleeve or pocket will accept a coloured line to be drawn on its surface.
- 3 A route finder / planner 'kit' as claimed in claim I or claim 2 where the sleeve or pocket will accept a continuous coloured line to be drawn on its surface.
- 4 A route finder / planner 'kit' as claimed in any preceding claims, that will accept a clear, bright transparent line to be drawn on its surface, through which text and detail are clearly visible and highlighted.
- A sleeve or pocket as stated in any preceding claims, made from polypropylene, P.V.C., polythene or other durable transparent 'film' having the appropriate properties stated in preceding claims.
- 6 A sleeve or pocket as claimed in any preceding claims, where the sleeve is 'closed' along two adjacent edges, the resulting 'pocket' then has two adjacent 'open' edges, either or both of which can if required be trimmed down to the size of the users atlas page.
- 7 A sleeve or pocket as claimed in any preceding claims where the closed edges are flat sealed or welded not just folded, in order to provide a tight, flat, 'pocket' as a means of keeping the 'film' in close contact with the page/e over which it is fitted, to give maximum visibility of the page detail with minimal slip in contact with the page.
- 8 A sleeve or pocket as claimed in any preceding claims which has a "rained surface to reduce possible reflection.
