Abstract
225,343. Berkel, C. F. M. van, and Thomas, H. Oct. 31, 1923. Cutting slices in succession.-In order to prevent canting or binding, the feed or meat table is guided on the under table or carriage by means of a single narrow guideway, engagement being maintained by a retaining-member which can be disengaged at will. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a narrow strip or tongue 5 on the meat table has a sliding fit between two upstanding ribs on the undercarriage and is retained in engagement by a strip 7 engaging in an undercut recess in one of the ribs and actuated for withdrawal and engagement by cams 15 and springs 11. In two similar forms the strip 7 is replaced by two tapered strips 20, 21, Fig. 3, and bv a horizontally disposed strip 60, Fig. 7, formed with apertures in which engage a number of eccentrics or cams 62. In the form shown in Fig. 9, a retaining-member 71 of bulbous section is pivoted to the rigid tongue 70 and operated by a rod 74. As shown in Fig. 6 the retaining-strip 46 is mounted so as to be tilted for disengagement by wipers 49. In the modification shown in Figs. 11 and 14, the retaining-member is mounted on the undercarriage, taking the form of a pivoted strip 79 in the first and a pivoted cam-like member 113 in the second. Fig. 12 shows a modification in which the member 97 carrying the half nut 98 is adapted, when lifted to disengage the feed, to disengage also the retaining strip 88 pivoted at 89 to the meat table. In a slight variation of this construction the guide groove is formed on the meat table and the corresponding tongue on the undercarriage. In the three remaining modifications, one form of which is shown in Fig. 15, the tongue is also on the undercarriage and there is either a groove on the meat table or, as shown, a number of deeply grooved rollers 121, the retaining member in all three forms being a pivoted strip such as 125 operated by screws such as 151 against the action of springs. The feed nut may in all cases be disengaged by the operating means for the retaining member.
