Abstract

A building tool or crow bar is for removing floorboards/roofing battens with little effort on the users part and without causing damage. The building tool consists of a bar with a hand grip 15 at one end and a two pronged fork 13 at other end. The building tool pivots on a round bar 10 e.g. on a joist giving sufficient leverage for lifting up floorboards/battens. Between the fork is a claw 12 used for pulling up spent nails and there is a shaped bar 11 attached providing protection to the users hand. <IMAGE>

Description

BUILDING TOOL This invention is concerned with building work, in particular an apparatus for facilitating the removal of floor boards and roofing battens.

Removing floor boards nailed to joists can be a time consuming job causing damage to the floor boards themselves, joists, pipes and electric cables (the latter two normally under the floor boards) aswell as injury to the persons hand doing the job from splinters and nails left behind, when a large screwdriver or claw hammer is used to do this job. Damage to the tools used normally results aswell. Similarly removing roofing battens the above applys with the addition that the roofing felt is always damaged in the process.

According to the present invention there is provided a building tool comprising of a bar normally metal with hand grip at one end and forked at the other end with two prongs. Opposite the hand grip side of the bar and under the two prongs is attached perpendicular to the bar a small round metal bar used for pivoting the forked end on e.g a joist giving sufficient leverage to lift up floorboards/battens with the forked end with little effort.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the building tool.

Figure 2 illustrates the building tool with the fork 13 under a batten pivoting on round bar 10 on a wooden joist. The figure showing the side elevation of the building tool.

Figure 3 shows the removal of a batten with the building tool from wooden joist. The figure showing the side elevation of the building tool.

Figure 4 shows a nail being pulled out with claw 12 of the building tool from the wooden joist. The figure showing the side elevation of the building tool.

Referring to figure 1 the building tool consists of a bar 14 normally metal with a hand grip 15 at one end and fork 13 at other. Under the bar 14 towards handgrip 15 is attached a shaped bar 11 used as a hand protector. Towards the forked end of the bar is a claw 12 which has a vee cut in it to remove nails.

Underneath the claw 12 is the round bar 10 used for pivoting the building tool.

Figure 2 shows the prongs of the forked end 13 underneath a batten with round bar 10 pivoting on wooden joist. Figure 3 then shows the removal of the batten when a downward force is applied to the building tool with the users hand normally on the hand grip 15. The users hand being protected by the hand protector 11.

Claims (4)

1. CLAIMS 1. A building tool comprising of a bar normally metal with hand grip at one. end and forked at the other end with two prongs.

   Opposite the hand grip side of the bar and under the two prongs is attached perpendicular to the bar a small round metal bar used for pivoting the forked end on joist giving sufficient leverage to lift up floorboards/battens with forked end with little effort.
2. 2. A building tool as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a claw device is provided for pulling out nails left behind by the removal of battens/floorboards.
3. 3. A building tool as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2 wherein means are provided in the form of attached shaped metal bar near the hand grip and underside of the bar to protect the users hand from injury when levering up floorboards/battens with the building tool.
