Description
22-51477 - 1 A CORE SHOOTING UNIT WITH NOVEL VALVE ARRANGEMENT This
invention relates to a core shooting unit incorporating a novel valve arrangement. The invention is primarily intended for use in the foundry industry for the production of foundry moulds and cores.
It is known to use axially arranged inlet and exhaust valves on core shooting units whereby the inlet valve disc and the valve control piston are connected by a rod, the sides thereof facing the rod being directly connected with the pressure chamber. The inlet and exhaust valve discs are thereby separate from one another and an intermediate chamber is formed between them which can be filled with compressed air. It is however a disadvantage that the opening times of the inlet and the exhaust valve differ sequentially so a part of the compressed air can escape.
The economy of the moulding and core shooter machine is thereby limited.
It is an object of the invention therefore to provide a core shooting unit with a novel valve arrangement which enables the greatest possible cross section to be left free on the closure valve for the compressed air entering the shooting chamber and an overlapping of the movement of the two valves to be avoided not only during ',shooting" but also during 'venting".
According to the invention there is provided a core shooting unit for moulding machines comprising a pressure container and control piston below which is located a pressure chamber having first and second openings therein, the first opening incorporating a quick action valve and the second opening being connected by means of a duct with a shooting chamber, said second opening being completely covered by a sealing element.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which there is shown a core shooting unit in its closed position.
The illustrated core shooting unit is installed on the upper part of a known core shooting machine (not shown).
The shooting unit consists of a pressure chamber 1 and a control piston 2 which is pressed against a sealing plate 3 by an acting pressure with the assistance of a spring 4.
Below the control piston 2 is arranged a pressure chamber provided with two openings 6,7. A quick action valve (not shown) is attached to opening 6 for the admission and removal of the control air. The opening 7 is connected with the shooting chamber 8 by a duct 9 closed by a sealing element 10 made of an abrasion-resistant material and formed with a lip or flap. In the shooting unit, the sealing element 10 is fixed in such a manner that it lies against and completely covers the opening 7 in the pressure chamber 5.
To initiate the shooting impulser the pressure chamber 5 is filled with compressed air and the sealing element 10 is pressed against the opening 7 to close it. After build up of the pressure, the control piston 2 is lifted and the shooting air can flow suddenly from the shooting chamber 8 into a sand container (not shown) located below the shooting unit. At the end of the shooting cycle, the control air is released from the pressure chamber 5 by means of the quick action exhaust valve (not shown) associated with the opening 6. The control valve 2 then sinks downwardly again _and. rests on the sealing plate 3. After release of the pressure in the pressure chamber 5, the sealing element 10 is raised and the shooting chamber 8 is vented through the opening 7 by means of the back. flowing shooting air.
By means of the invention, the shooting process can proceed as an automatic sequence whereby no uncontrolled initiation of the shot can take place. Furthermore, the venting of the shooting chamber 8 takes place with little noise.
