Abstract

A flood barrier comprises a transparent panel 6 located in two side guides. The guides are of channel form with fixed rubber seals, which form water seals when the panel is in position. The unit is fixed permanent on mastik putty and screwed into rawl plugs in the exterior door reveal. The panel is locked in position by bolts 11. An air brick of a building may be blocked by a panel (13) screwed to the air brick and having a vent pipe (15) (Fig 3 not shown). <IMAGE>

Description

DOOR AND AIR VENT FLOOD BARRIER The flood barrier will do for most property:- households shops and offices. It could hold back flood water up to at least one meter in height.
It's made up of two 1.40mm length side runners shown on fig 1 and 2. As number 1 A+B, the length of bottom runner. No 1C is governed by width of door reveal the mitred joints No 2 will be braced, the three sections form a channel with a 15m x 3m fixed rubber seal No 3 to the leading edge of both inside faces of the two sides and bottom runners this is fixed as a unit to the door reveal on a mastic putty. Drilled and rawplug No 4 using 2 No 10 gauge sheradized screws spaced at 40mm from top and bottom and no more than 200mm centres. Using a mastic gun you then seal the outward edge No 5 all around the unit.
The flood barrier shield No 6. That slides inside the fixed water tight aluminium channel is made of lOmm thick toughend elaminated purspex and could be lm in height. With a 2m door opening, fixed to the two sides and bottom of the purspex you have an aluminium trim No 7 which has a 4mm x lmm deep capillary groove No 8 that takes the rubber seal and makes the barrier water tight, also around the out side edge of the aluminium trim No 7 the two sides and bottom has a 2m clearance to take any discrepancy. When sliding into fixed channel to minimize movement there is a 5mm x 2mm fixed rubber No 9 to centre on outside edge, the top aluminium trim on the perspex shield No 10 is greater in dimension housed inside on both ends. You have a twin sliding latch No 11 so when perspex shield is down tight you slide the two latches into the receivers No 12 on top of both sides of aluminium channel. When purspex shield not in use it could be fixed on brackets behind front door hallway for easy access also with materials used it should be easy to handle.
AIR VENT FLOOD BARRIER An aluminium water tight box No 13 this is screwed to the wall No 14 with 11111 x No 8 sherardized screws and rawl plugs using mastic putty to seal against wall then mastic gun around edges No 5 the size of box is governed by size of vent. Fixed to the box will be a water tight air vent tube running up the wall No 15 up to height req. Fixed with brackets screwd.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIM
The door flood barrier could be manufactured for a single or double door:- for houses - shops and offices in high risk areas of flooding. It could hold back flood water and sludge up to one metre deep depending on height of door. To ensure the work is done to a high standard it should be manufactured for each individual door reveal size and fixed same as double glazing.
Some property may need remedial work done to ensure a sound water tight fixing. The door unit is made in one section of a strong gauge aluminium approximately one metre forty millimetre high, the width depending on reveal opening size. The unit is fixed permanent using sherardize screws and rawl plugs, and bedded on a mastik putty to the exterior side of door brick reveals and door step forming a water seal. There is also a run of mastik along both sides and bottom inside corners to form outer water seal, fixed on the inside of aluminium unit on both sides and bottom. All around is a hard wearing rubber seal which forms water seal when shield in position, when shield not in use you have capping covers that clip into unit to protect from being damaged and dirt entering. The flood shield is made of ten millimetre thick toughened elaminated perspex, or any proven material that could withstand stand water pressure. It would be enclosed in an aluminium frame with capillary groove either side of frame on both sides and bottom. To take rubber seal from unit, the shield when not in use could be kept on brackets fixed to wall behind front and back door for easy reach, when flood alarm is given you remove capping covers from sides and bottom runners make sure they are clean, unhook shield. One person could manage a single door shield and slot it in to unit. Making sure it goes down tight to bottom runner and the two spring catches on top of shield lock in to position. The barrier then is watertight up to height stated, after water recedes and sludge is cleared, using thumb catch, you unlock the shield and keep in storing place until it's required again.
The air vent flood barrier is made of a strong gauge aluminium, formed as a hollow sealed box section with air vent pipe running up to height required, this is sealed to the box section, the size of box and vent pipe depends on size of vent opening to property and air flow required. The box is fixed permanent using sherardized screws and rawlplugs and bedded to wall with mastik putty to form water tight seal, the air vent pipe is clipped to wall and fixed using sherardized screws and rawlplugs.
