Abstract

A suspension system designed especially for motorcycles with swinging arm front and rear suspensions has them connected together at 2 in the diagram. Thus taking stress of the chassis which could be made lighter. <IMAGE>

Description

VEHICLE SUSPENSION.
This invention relates to a co-operative suspension system.
New suspension systems are always being introduced, especially with regard to motorcycles.
According to the present invention there is provided an almost direct linkage of the front and rear suspension units. These units are in turn mounted into the chassis, in this example by the use of 'triangulated swinging arms' (front and rear) Steering is of the tAub-centre' type.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which la and lb show front and rear suspension units. 2 is their meeting point where they are fized and through which they co-operate together.
3a and 3b are the front and rear 'triangulated swinging arms' which connect wheels and suspension units.
4 is the engine and 5 the 'hub-centre' steering unit.

Claims (5)

CLAIMS 1. A suspension system wherein the suspension units co-operate more directly than is traditionally the case, because they are connected or almost connected, to one another. 2. A suspension system as claimed in claim 1. wherein the suspension units are co-operative through mechanical gas or fluid connectåons between front and rear units. AMENDMENTS TO THE CLAIMS H AVE BEEN FLED AS FOLLOWS.
1. A motorcycle having two wheels, one before the engine used to steer, the other behind t.e engine used for driving; both wheel hubs are connected to the main chassis by swinging arms, these arms are built so as to join with suspension units, above, or to the side of the engine; these units then meet end to end, or to within 2&commat;" of each other, upon the 'bike chassis.
2. A suspension system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the swinging arms run the shortest distance from wheel hubs to nearby pivot points.
3. A suspension system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the parts operate directly, or almost directly, and are not complicated by the use of various levers to connect suspension units with swinging arms.
4. A suspension system as claimed in claim 1 where in the suspension meeting point '2' is fixed and not moveable once set unless reset.
5. A suspension system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the suspension units are co-operative through mechanical, gas or fluid connections between front and rear units.
