Abstract

An hydraulic clutch actuation device comprising a clutch release bearing (6), an hydraulically operable displacement sleeve acting hydraulically thereon, a housing (1) containing a pressure medium input and a pressure cavity (3), a compression spring (7) arranged between the clutch release bearing (6) and the housing (1), which prestresses the bearing (6). and a bellows (8) arranged on the bearing housing (6) and on the housing (1) which contains the pressure cavity (3), which bellows seals the coupling actuation device. The bellows (8) is constructed so as to be circumferentially rotatable at its seat on the housing (1) which contains the pressure cavity (3) and/or on the bearing housing (6). The bellows preferably has a slidable ring (a) mounted on a seat in the housing, or alternatively the bellows may be coated at the seat with a low friction material. <IMAGE>

Description

Hydraulic coupling actuation device The present invention relates to an hydraulic coupling actuation device comprising a coupling bearing, an hydraulically operable displacement sleeve acting hydraulically thereon, a housing containing a pressure medium input and a pressure cavity, a compression spring arranged between the coupling bearing and housing, which prestresses the bearing, and a bellows arranged on the bearing housing and on the housing which contains the pressure cavity, which bellows seals the coupling actuation device.
Such a coupling actuation device was proposed in DE GM 88 15 881, and has proved successful in practice.
It has been found that isolated damage to the bellows can occur. Through the inner frictional moment of the bearing, a resulting force occurs in a circumferential direction. This force is supported via the compression spring which is used simultaneously as a pre-load spring, on the housing. During this process, the bearing housing twists with the piston as well as the protection cap which is connected in a friction-locking manner with the bearing housing, with respect to the housing, which leads to a torsion of the bellows. This construction causes a reduction in the usable life of the bellows especially when it is jammed between the spring windings.
It is therefore an aim of the present invention to develop a coupling actuation device having a construction as set out in the opening paragraph of the present specification in such a way that the said disadvantages are avoided and loading of the bellows in a circumferential direction is reduced by simple means.
Accordingly the present invention is directed to an hydraulic coupling actuation device as described in the opening paragraph of the present specification in which the bellows is constructed so as to be circumferentially rotatable at its seat on the housing which contains the pressure cavity and/or on the bearing housing.
Preferably the bellows has a sliding ring on at least one seat.
Advantageously the bellows is provided with a low-friction coating on its seats.
An example of an hydraulic coupling actuation device made in accordance with the present invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which; Figure 1 shows an axial sectional view of such a coupling actuation device; and Figure 2 shows an enlarged cross-section of a part of the device illustrated in Figure 1.
A housing 1 is illustrated in Figure 1. It has a connection 2 for receiving a supply of pressure medium, which leads into a pressure cavity 3. Therein a piston 5, provided with a seal 4 is arranged so as to be axially displaceable. The piston is equipped with a coupling bearing 6 at its other end. A compression spring 7 is arranged between the coupling bearing 6 and the housing 1. The spring 7 prestresses the bearing 6. A bellows 8 is attached to the bearing 6 and the housing 1 on their outside and seals the coupling actuation device against dirt. The bellows 8 is connected firmly with the bearing housing 6 whilst it is provided with a slidable ring 9 engaged in a seat on the housing 1 in such a manner that it can rotate about the axis of the device.
As illustrated in Figure 2, the slidable ring 9 is arranged radially and axially with play between the housing 1 and a spring support surface 10, so that the bellows 8 can follow a rotation of the bearing outer ring with respect to the housing.
Numerous modifications and variations in the illustrated hydraulic coupling actuation device may readily occur to the reader without taking it outside the scope of the present invention. Thus for example instead of a slidable ring, the bellows 8 may also be provided with a low-friction coating on its seat.
