Abstract
224,634. Rudd, R. J. Aug. 28, 1923. Pendulums, regulating.-The pendulum of a clock is compensated for the deviation from Greenwich mean time by means of a cam 7 and a movable rod and weight 12, 10 on the pendulum. The surface of the cam is made to correspond with the weekly deviation of a compensated clock from Greenwich mean time from observations made over a number of years. The cam may be operated by a spring driven drum 15 and pawl 17 engaging the ratchet 16, which is released weekly by spring-controlled pallets 21 and an escape wheel 14 with fifty-two teeth. The pallets 21 may be operated electromagnetically by an armature engaging the lever 23. The circuit is closed by a contact established once in each revolution of a star wheel having seven teeth and driven by a pin on the 24-hour wheel or having 14 teeth driven by the 12-hour wheel. The armature of a single stroke electric bell may be used to operate the lever 23 or the pallets 21. A weight 24 is applied to the pendulum carrier to counterbalance the device and bring the centre of gravity of the additional mass in line with the centre of suspension. The cam may have adjustable segments.
