Abstract

224,434. Reeves, G. Feb. 26, 1924. Anti-dazzle screens. - An anti-dazzle or lightsubduing screen for use by the driver of a motor vehicle is supported from the wind-screen by means of an articulated arm which forms a universally jointed member, frictional means,. such as washers, being inserted in the intermediate joints and end hinges of the arm so as. automatically to retain the screen in any position to which it is adjusted. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the screen 18 of coloured'. glass is hinged at 16 to a rod 15 between which and a second rod 8 is a ball-and-socket joint 11, and the rod 8 is hinged at 6 to a bracket 5 rotatable on a spindle 4 attached to the windscreen frame 2, friction washers such as 5a and 9 being inserted at the knuckle hinges and friction material 13 in the ball-and-socket joint 11. The rod 8 may be made telescopic in order to increase the range of adjustment. In a modification in which no ball-and-socket joint is employed the universal movement is obtained by a series of knuckle joints.
