Abstract

A multisided harp is formed from a tetrahedral frame defining three harp faces and a tetrahedral sound box, located within the tetrahedral frame and contacting the triangular base thereof. <IMAGE>

Description

MU SICAL IN STRUKENT The present invention relates to a musical instrument of the stringed kind, and more particularly to harps.
According to the present invention there is provided a musical instrument which comprises a tetrahedral frame defining a triangular base and three triangular faces, each triangular face being strung as a harp and a tetrahedral sound box positioned within the tetrahedral frame with the base of the sound box contacting the triangular base of the tetrahedral frame.
The present invention will be further understood from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment there of which is made, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1. Illustrates the tetrahedral framework of a musical instrument according to the present invention.
Figure 2. Shows the tetrahedral soundbox located within the framework of Figure 1.
In Figure 2 a tetrahedral sound box 8 is shown positioned within the tetrahedral frame with the sides of the tetrahedral sound box 8 contacting the members 4. 5. and 6 defining the base of the tetrahedral harp.
Figure 3. shows one face of a tetrahedral harp according to the present invention with the strings tuned in a diatonic scale.
Referring to Figure 1. there is shown a tetrahedral frame comprising members 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. and 6 defining three triangular faces and a triangular base.
Figure 1 shows the triangular face defined by members 2. 3. and 6 with strings 7 tuned in chords.
Many different sizes of the tetrahedral harp can be made, all apply to the present invention.
The present invention can be made of wooden tetrahedral frame for strings, with E wooden tetrahedral sound box.
The present invention can be made of a metal tetrahedral frame for the strings with a metal tetrahedral sound box.
The present invention can be made of a wooden tetrahedral frame for the strings, and a metal tetrahedral sound box.
The present invention can be made with a metal tetrahedral frame for the strings, with a wooden tetrahedral sound box.
The present invention can be also made from fibreglass or any other suitable man made substance.
The present invention can be strung with metal strings or gut strinGs according to the sound required.
b:any different tunings of the three tetrahedral faces can aptly, diatonic, pentatonic and chromatic.
The amount of strings each side of a tetrahedral harp has depends on the size and ase of the tetrahedral harp.
A further development of tl;e tetrahedral harp is the fitting of wooden, metal, bone or any man made substance bridges between the tetrahedral sound bo and the strings for a different or louder sound.
a further development is to attach another sound box to the base.
A further development of the tetrahedral harp is to attach a harmonium to the base as in Figure 4. where 10 shows this can have a chromatic keyboard or a selection of harmonium reeds, that can be set for continuous drones. The attachment can be built into the base of the tetrahedral harp and powered by hand bellows or an electric pump. The tetrahedral harp can be an electric multisided harp using magnetic pick-ups or contact microphones placed at the base of the frame, or on or in the sound box. The present invention can be an electrical musical instrument, with light beams passing through the frame from the base to the vertical sides.
The space and shape where the tetrahedral sound box can be a synthesiser module. By breaking the light beams the notes are sounded.
