Abstract

The aquarium feeder has a body 5 which houses a rotatable food cartridge tube 7 spun by a motor 10 spindle powered by a battery 11 under the control of a programmer 13. As the inner cartridge spins, food moves forward along the tube to fall out of the bottom orifice of the airbox 1. The airbox 1 is connected to an air pump the airflow preventing build up of condensation at the orifice thereby keeping food in the cartridge dry. <IMAGE>

Description

PRCr;RAPIMABLE AQUARIUM FEEDER This invention relates to a programable aquarium feeder.
Automated aquarium feeding systems have certain disadvantages, because a feeder needs to have a dispensing orifice open to aquarium water, condensation can form and render food unusable.
For this reason feeders tend to be of short duration,to ovefl came this, traps have been devised to shut off access to the water. This requires mechanism that not only consume space but limit the amount of food that can be held in the feeder.
The present invention overcomes these disadvantages , and is comprised of an airbox,an inner rotating tube where food is held,an outer casing to provide stability for the inner tube.
In addition to this, there is an electric motor and gearbox, a battery and programming unit to set the time and amount of feed.
The airbox has an airline associated with it from the aquarium air pump, and this airflow keeps the food dry.
The downthrust of air towards the water surface prevents the build up of condensation.
The airbox remains held in the condensation trap of the aquarium and the main body of the unit can be withdrawn for re-filling.
When the inner tube holding the food rotates, the food moves along the tube until it reaches the end where it drops into the water.
DESCRIPTION An example of the invention will now be described with the aid of a diagram.
With reference to the diagram.
Fig. 1. Exploded view of the feeder showing all main components.
Fig.2. The completed unit.
An airbox 1 incorporating an air inlet 4 and sealing ring 2 is fitted with an extended trap cover piece 3 to be fitted along the edge of an aquarium condensation trap.
The inner food cartridge 7 sealed at one end by an end cap 8 is fitted inside the housing 5 and protrudes from the end of 5 into the airbox 1 via the sealing ring 2.
The body 5 is supported against movement by an underbody mounting 6.
The end cap 8 is fixed at the centre to the electric motor 10 spindle via the gearbox 9.
A battery 11 fits into the rear of the motor 10 housing and a cover 12 encloses the battery.
The programming unit 13 is mounted onto the motor 10.
