Abstract
A mounting fixture for a window tiltable about a horizontal axis comprises a guide rail (10) to be mounted on a vertical main frame member with a first track for a slide or roller member secured at the top of the window frame, and a second track for a slide shoe connected with one end of a guiding rod (12), the other end of which is connected with the one vertical side member of the window frame, approximately in the middle thereof. A supporting bar (14) is pivotally connected (15) at one end with the upper end of the guide rail and at its other end with the guiding rod (12). In order to allow the adaptation of the fixture to conform to mounting in a window main frame of smaller size than a standard module for which the fixture is determined, the pivotal junction (15) is located between one end of the supporting bar and the guide rail at a distance (a) from the upper end of the guide rail, thereby allowing to effect the adaptation of the fixture by shortening the guide rail from the upper end. <IMAGE>
Description
A MOUNTING FIXTURE FOR A WINDOW
The invention relates to a mounting fixture for a window tiltable about a horizontal axis, said fixture comprising a guide rail to be mounted on a vertical main frame member and having a first track for a slide or roller member mounted at the top of the window frame and a second track for a slide shoe connected with one end of a guiding rod, the other end of which is connected with one vertical side member of the window frame, approximately in the middle thereof, a supporting lever being pivotally connected at one end with the upper end of the guide rail and at its other end with the guiding rod.
Fixtures of this type, inter alia known from DK
Patent Application No. 2660/77, and presenting the advantage that the window is tiltable to a cleaning position without moving any part of the window frame inwards into the room on the internal side of the window, because the upper edge of the window frame during the reversing operation is moving downwards in the first track of the guide rail, are produced according to current standards in a definite number of different sizes each intended for an individual standard window size in a modular series. In accordance with current
Danish standards there is a difference of 100 mm in the height of installation, i.e. the total height measured between the upper side of the top section of the main frame and the underside of its bottom section, between the individual standard windows of such a modular series, e.g. a so-called M 12 and a so-called M 11 window.
In view of the fact that the main frame and the window frame are made from standard profiles that are uniform as regards any size of modules, and the fixture for a specific modular size is designed so that the length of the guide # de rail corresponds to the distance between the underside of the top section of the main frame and the upper side of its bottom section, the manufacturing of the window fixture in a definite number of sizes corresponding to each respective window module, implies that it has been necessary to make use of the immediately following smaller fixture module when using the fixture in connection with windows differing from standard module sizes, inter alia because the installation height ranges between the dimensions applying to two successive modular sizes, which is particularly the case when older windows are to be exchanged. The guide rail is thus canted at either side of the main frame upwards against its top section, and the remaining portion of the main frame height between the lower end of the guide rail and the upper side of the bottom section of the main frame is filled in by an infilling member.
In view of the fact that, inherently, the window frame must have a height corresponding to the internal height of the main frame, implying that the bottom section of the window frame, upon tilting the window to the cleaning position dependent on the actual deviation in respect of the immediately following larger window module, will more or less overtop the top section of the main frame. when roughly handled, this might cause damage to the window frame, and as regards tiltable windows provided with a safety device for retaining the window in the cleaning position a too large protrusion of the window frame upon tilting may entail that the safety device which as described in the above mentioned patent application cooperates with the slide block connected with the guiding rod will be unable to work.
With the practically available sizes of modules it has turned out that the protrusion of the bottom section of the window frame upon tilting, i.e. the length by which the underside of the bottom section of the frame over tops the upper side of the top section of the main frame, should not exceed about 30 mm if a satisfactory function is to be upheld. With the above stated variation of modular dimensions this will, however, not be possible as regards intermediate sizes falling within the upper range of the interval between two successive modular sizes.
This problem is solved according to the invention in that the pivotal connection between one end of the supporting bar and the guide rail is located at a distance from the upper end of the guide rail allowing adaptation of the fixture to conform to mounting in a window main frame of smaller size than a standard module for which the fixture is determined, by shortening the guide rail from the upper end.
Through this simple measure it has been ensured that the standardized modular dimensions of a fixture of the type concerned may be used for all window dimensions between two consecutive modular sizes since, in case of deviations in the upper range of the interval between such modular sizes, the immediately following larger modular size is used, and in the lower range of the total interval the immediately following smaller modular size is used.
The invention will be explained in detail in the following with reference to the drawings, in which
Fig. 1 shows a reversible window,
Fig. 2 is a known fixture, and
Figs 3 to 10 illustrate an embodiment of a fixture according to the invention with the possibility of lengthwise adaptation to window sizes differing from the modular dimensions.
Fig. 1 illustrates a reversible window of a known design, having a window frame consisting of lateral members 1 and 2, a top section 3 and a bottom section 4.
The window is suspended in a main frame con sistine of lateral members 5 and 6, a top section 7 and a bottom section 8 by means of fixtures 9 between either of lateral members 1 and 2 of the window frame and main frame members 5 and 6.
Each of fixtures 9 includes a guide rail 10 with a first track lOa secured to the vertical main frame member 5 or 6 and a second track lob. The first track 10a serves as a guide for a slide or roller side member, not shown, secured at the top of the window frame, while the second track serves as a guide for a slide shoe 11 pivotally connected with one end of a guiding rod 12 the other end of which is pivotally connected with a fixture 13 secured to side member 1 or 2 of the window frame, approximately in the middle thereof. One end of a supporting bar 14 is pivotally connected with the guiding rod 12 at a distance from the joint with fixture 13, the other end of said bar being pivotally connected with the upper end of guide rail 10, for instance by means of a block securely riveted in second groove lob.
The fixture as shown in Fig. 2 is manufactured in sizes fitting to stardardized modular dimensions of windows and in such a manner that the length of guide rail 10 is adapted to properly conform to the height distance between the underside of main frame top section 7 and the upper side of bottom section 8. In accordance with Danish standards a series of modules includes a number of window sizes, e.g. M6 to M16, of which said height distance shows a difference of 100 mm between two consecutive modules.
As regards prior designs of the fixture to be mounted in windows of varying dimensions, i.e. a window size between two consecutive modules, it is prescribed to use the immediately following smaller modular size and to mount the fixture with guide rail 10 up against the underside of main frame top section 7, thereby leaving between the lower edge of the guide rail and the upper side of main frame bottom member 8 a gap in which an infilling member may for example be inserted.
In view of the fact that the height of the window frame corresponds to the full height distance between the underside of main frame top section 7 and the upper side of main frame bottom section 8, the bottom section of the window frame, when so designed, will inevitably overtop the main frame top section when the window is turned 1800 to the cleaning position and, particularly, as regards window sizes whose height ranges in the upper end of the interval between two consecutive modular sizes, i.e. at a relatively large distance from the immediately following used smaller module a rather considerable protrusion will occur involving the inconveniences described in the preceding.
Figs 3 to 10 illustrate an embodiment of a fixture according to the invention in which the pivotal connection IS between the upper end of supporting lever 14 and guide rail 10 is located at a distance a of e.g. about 50 mm from the upper end of guide rail 10, thereby allowing to amend the fixture to conform to mounting in a window main frame of a smaller size than the modular size the fixture is intended for.
In Fig. 3 the fixture is shown in its full length, guide rail 10 protruding a distance a beyond the pivotal connection 15 between supporting lever 14 and the guide rail, and here the fixture, as illustrated by letter M designating the window height, is determined for a window size corresponding to the standardised modular dimensions which the fixture is intended for, e.g. M12.
As illustrated in Fig. 4 the upper side of bottom section 4 of the window france will, upon tilting the window frame, be at a level b beneath the upper side of main frame top section 7.
Figs 5 and 6 show the adaptation of the fixture to conform to a window size whose height M is for instance 15 mm smaller than the modular dimensions prescribed for the fixture. For a window in this upper end of the interval between two consecutive modular dimensions use is made, in accordance with the invention, of the fixture of the immediately following larger modular size, guide rail 10 of this fixture being shortened, e.g. by said 15 mm to a length 1, as illustrated in Fig. 5. Upon tilting the window to the cleaning position the underside of the bottom section of the window frame will be positioned correspondingly higher in relation to the full length of the fixture, but still at a distance b1 below the upper side of main frame top section 7, as illustrated in Fig. 6.
Figs 7 and 8 illustrate in a similar manner the adaptation of the fixture to conform to a window size with a height M2, which is e.g. 35 mm smaller than the modular dimensions prescribed for the full length of the fixture. Guide rail 10 is also now made to fit by shortening guide # de rail 10 from above by a length corresponding to the actual height difference, to a length a2, and as illustrated in Fig. 8 the underside of bottom section 4 of the window frame will be pos- tioned at a correspondingly higher level, so that in this case a certain but limited protrusion of a length b2 is actual in relation to the window main frame.
Figs 9 and 10 eventually show how to amend the fixture to conform to a window size in which there is a difference between the actual window height M2 and the immediately following larger modular size, corresponding to the distance a between the upper end of guide rail 10 and the pivotal Junction 15 of supporting lever 14. The longitudinal adaptation is again obtained by shortening guide rail 10 by a corresponding length and in this embodiment too, the underside of bottom section 4 of the window frame will present a protrusion b2 in relation to the main frame upon tilting the window to the cleaning position, however still within an acceptable limit which does not prevent the correct function of a safety device intended to retain the window in the cleaning position.
As it will appear, the fixture for lengthwise adaptation designed according to the invention will typically cover any divergent window size with height dimensions in the upper half of the interval between two consecutive modules, while deviant window sizes in the lower end of this interval with the same fixture design, but without shortening the upper end, may be covered by the fixture prescribed for the immediately following smaller module.
