224,110. Imray, O. Y., (International Motor Oo.). Dec. 17, 1923. Brakes, arrangement and disposition of. - A complete braking unit is carried by a separate frame supported by the chassis, the brake drum being fixed on a short shaft inserted between two sections of the propeller shaft. A rectangular frame c is bolted to frame members b and carries a short shaft h in removable bearings g. The shaft h is connected by flexible couplings h<3> to the two parts into which the propeller shaft h<1> is divided. A brake drum i is fixed on the short shaft and is engaged by blocks l pivoted at k on the frame c and actuated by a shaft n' also carried by the frame. The shaft n<1> has a two-armed lever n, each arm of which acts on one of the brake blocks through a bolt l<8> and opposing springs m<2>, m<3>, so that the brakes are yieldingly applied.
