Abstract

An advertising panel assembly comprises a panel 1 having inwardly facing guide surfaces 3 to support removably an advertising shoot. Releasable fasteners (10, 11) enable the panel 1 to be mounted to a support, such as a supermarket trolley, the fasteners being fixed to one side of the panel. Suitably the assembly comprises two panels the fastening means on one panel cooperating with corresponding apertures (12) on the other panel in use to hold the panel on a support. The fastening means preferably comprises sets of resilient hook members (10, 11 Figure 5). The panel may be provided with a slot for the insertion or removal of an advertising sheet. <IMAGE>

Description

INTERNATIONAL TRADE & EXHIBITIONS LIMITED ADVERTISING PANEL ASSEMBLY The invention relates to advertising panels of the kind comprising a panel having means to support removeably an advertising sheet; and releasable fastening means to enable the panel to be mounted to a support.
Recently, a desire has been expressed to provide advertising panels on supermarket trollies and the like.
An example of such a panel is described in DE-A-3502791.
It is necessary, however, to be able easily and quickly to mount these panels on trollies. It is also desirable to be able to dismount the panels for cleaning and the like. Such easy mounting is not possible with the known panel assemblies which have relatively complex fastening means such as screws and bolts which can easily be lost and take time to assemble.
In accordance with the present invention, an advertizing panel of the kind described is characterized in that the fastening means is fixed to one side of the panel.
We have devised a new type of assembly in which the fastening means is fixed to, and preferably integrally formed with, the panel. This avoids the problems mentioned above since there is no danger of losing the fastening means thereby permitting rapid assembly and disassembly. The invention is particularly suited to the manufacture of plastic moulded panels.
Although it is possible for a single panel to be mounted directly to a support, such as a supermarket trolley, preferably the assembly comprises two panels, the fastening means of each panel cooperating with corresponding apertures of the other panel in use to hold the panels on a support. This aspect is useful where panels are to be used with a wide variety of different trollies having different wire mesh dimensions since the two panels can be held closely together so as to grip the support.
Preferably, the apertures extend through the panel to enable the fastening means to be released. This again assists in rapid disassembly.
The fastening means may have various different forms but preferably comprise sets of resilient hook members.
The advertising sheet may be held on the panel using clips or the like but preferably the or each panel has a pair of inwardly facing guides along which an advertizing sheet can be slid so as to hold the sheet on the panel.
For example, in the case of a square or rectangular panel, the guide may extend along the two sides which are normally vertical in use with some form of retainer at the base.
In order to secure the sheet, the panel preferably comprises an elongate slot which faces up in use and through which an advertizing sheet is inserted.
Preferably means such as one or more nipples are provided in the slot to retain the sheet in position.
An example of an advertizing panel assembly according to the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a panel from the front and one side; Figure 2 is a plan; Figure 3 is a bottom plan; Figure 4 is a rear elevation; and, Figure 5 is a side elevation.
The panel shown in the drawings has a rectangular form and is constructed from plastics mouldings. The panel has a rectangular base I around which is provided a frame 2. The frame defines a pair of opposed, inwardly facing guide surfaces 3, one of which can be seen in Figure 1, and a lower retaining slot 4. An entry slot 5 is provided at the top of the frame 2. In use, an advertizing sheet made of paper or cardboard, preferably encapsulated in plastics for tamper and weather protection, or a plastics sheet, having dimensions similar to those of the frame 2 is inserted through the slot 5 and slides along the guides 3 until it rests in the slot 4.
A pair of diagonally opposed apertures 6 extend through the base 1 in alignment with integrally formed, hollow, rectangular blocks 8 on the rear of the base.
Each block 8 has a central web section 9 from which opposite sides of which extends a pair of opposed hook members lC', 11. Apertures 6 are not essential however.
A second pair of integrally formed, hollow blocks 7 are mounted on the rear of the base 1, the blocks 7, 8 being positioned at the corners of a rectangle. Each block 7 has an aperture 12 which, in this example, communicates with apertures 13 extending through the base 1.
In order to mount a pair of the panels on a wire trolley or the like, the two panels are positioned one on each side of the mesh with each pair of hook members 1C, 11 of one panel being in alignment with corresponding apertures 12 of the other. The panels are then pressed together so that the hook members 10, 11 are urged towards each other upon engagement.with the walls of the apertures 12 in the other panel until they clip around the walls.
In order to release the panels, a suitable tool such as a pair of specialist thin plyers is inserted through the apertures 13 in the front face of each panel, to squeeze the hooks together and thus disengage them from the panel. Typically, the apertures 6, 13 have dimensions of 4 mm x 20 mm.
In designing these panels, we have found that the spacing of the hooks and apertures is very important and as a result we have determined a particular spacing which allows the panels to be used with a wide variety of existing supermarket trollies. Thus, the distance A should be about 164 mm while the distance B should be about 116 mm. The outer dimensions of each panel are preferably 261 mm x 227 mm while the advertizment sheet size is typically 239 mm x 203 mm.
It should also be noted that the apertures 6, 13 are flush with the front face of the base 1 so that the insertion of an advertizing sheet is not obstructed. The complementary nature of the panel fastenings allowing a single panel to be manufactured leads to a particularly cheap constructional method using injection moulding.
