Abstract

Monogrammic signals; road-traffic signals on vehicles.-A signal device adapted for motor vehicles comprises a casing subdivided by ribs into a number of compartments 1 - - 15, Figs. 2 and 6, each containing an electric lamp 1<a>, 15<a>. This casing A is secured in an outer casing C attached to the rear of the vehicle, and clamped to its face, by tubular clips 19, 20, Fig. 5, is a stencil-plate 17 covered by a glass plate 18 and containing a number of sets of apertures a - - g; h, i, j, k, m; n - - q; and r - - v, so arranged with respect to the compartments that by selectively illuminating a number of the lamps 1<a> - - 15<a> different words may be signalled formed of stencil letters, built-up one at each set of apertures. In one compartment 22 of the casing A, a tail light 23 may be arranged. The device shown is adapted to signal STOP, Fig. 7; RITE, Fig. 8; and LEFT, Fig. 9.
