Abstract

A deflector for convected heated air from a central heating radiator, comprises a concave air deflecting surface and end plates. <IMAGE>

Description

DEFLECTOR OF CONVECTED HEAT This invention relates to a deflector of the convected heat which rises above a central heating radiator when the radiator is supplying both radiated and convected heat.
Wall mounted central heating radiators are well known to supply both radiated and convected heat. The convected heat is achieved by cool or cold air at floor level being drawn through and around the heated radiator. This cool or cold air is then increased in temperature as it meets and rises around the heated radiator. Unless otherwise directed the heated convected air flows upwards from the radiator until ceiling level is reached.
According to the invention there is a deflection of heated convected air from the top of a central heating radiator towards the room space horizontally adjacent to the top of a central heating radiator.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the normal path of heated convected air from the top of a central heating radiator; Figure 2 shows the three components 1, 2 and 3 comprising the invention and before assembly; Figure 3 shows the three components 1, 2 and 3 comprising the assembled invention and illustrates by way of dotted lines the area where surplus material may be removed from 2 and 3 to achieve correct fitting; Figure 4 illustrates the change in direction of heated convected air from a central heating radiator when the invention is placed on top of the radiator.
Referring to the accompanying drawing the invention is described as follows: Component 1 illustrated in Figure 2 is a hollow extrusion of two sides at right angle to each other and the space inside the right angle is closed by an inward facing curve joined to each side by a short shoulder.
Component 2 is an adjustable closure plate for the left hand side of component 1.
Component 3 is an adjustable closure plate for the right hand side of component 1.

Claims (3)

1 By diverting the heated convected air from a point just above a central heating radiator towards the room space being heated the invention increases the personal warmth and comfort of people inhabiting the space. Without the invention the available convected heat from a central heating radiator might otherwise travel upwards until it reaches the ceiling where it will remain and perform no useful purpose in regard to providing warmth for occupants of the room space whore at floor level.
2 The increased air movement of heated convected air from a point just above a central heating radiator towards the room space contributes to the circulation of air within the space being heated.
3 A deflector of convected heat substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 - 4 of the accompanying drawing.
3 The custom of locating a central heating radiator below a window aperture may trap heated convected air from a central heating radiator between the window and the curtains when drawn.
The invention substantially deflects heated convected air from a central heating radiator beyond the folds of drawn curtains towards the room space being heated.
4 By improving the circulation of heated convected air nearer floor level the invention may contribute to a reduction in energy consumption.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows
1 A deflector of convected heat which rises above a central heating radiator whtn the radiator is supplying both radiated and convected heat, comprising an adjustable hollow or solid extrusion or moulding shaped as two sides at right angle to eaell other and the space inside the right angle closed by an inward facing curve joined to each side by a short shoulder, an adjustable closure plate fitted to the oft hand side of the extrusion or moulding, and an adjustable closure plate fitted to the right hand side .f the extrusion or moulding.
2 A deflector of convected heat as claimed in Claim 1 wherein adjustments are provided to control th defleetion of convected heat.
