Abstract
A potato chitting crate comprises trays bolted into a rigid framework which can be tilted for filling and emptying. Spacer boards are used to achieve uniform filling depth thereby ensuring good air and light penetration. Each tray has a wire base and a hinged flap 10 at its front, the flaps being held closed in the framework by removable pin 12. <IMAGE>
Description
POIATOE CHITTINE CRATE
This invention relates to a potatoe chitting crate.
Potatoe chitting crates and boxes and trays are a well known method of pre-sprouting potatoes prior to planting. A major problem of the process is assuming even linht and air distrubtion, whilst enabling ease of handling for filling and emptying.
The present invention consists of seven trays secured oy bolts in a main rigid frame. Each tray has a wire base, solid sides and back, and a ninged flap at the front held in the closed position by a central pin. The main frame is constructes so that it cen be tilted horizontally by means of a s?ecial tilting dewise for filling. Plso the crates can La transported and emptied by means of a fork lift.
A specific embodiment will now be described by way of examle with reference to the accompaning drawing in which Figure 1 snows in perspective the potatoe chitting crate eith tne spacer
boards in position prior to tilting and filling.
Figure 2 shows the individual tray.
Figure 3 shows the main frames and the wire rope for the tray support.
Figure 4 shows the spacer boards.
Reffering to the drawing of the potatoe chitting crate comprises of seven individual trays sscured by bolts into a main rigis frame, to then form a complete crate as shown in figure 1. A wire rope which tasses through each tray and is securad at the tor of the crate and clippsd under each tray in order to stop the tray from. sagging when filled. Each tray has a hinged flap 10 at the front as shown in Figure 2.
The method of filling is to first oper the flaps 10, then place spacen boards inside the trays. The crate can then bs tilted by a special device (not shown ).
The sopacer boards are held in position by means of clips 11, to the underside of the abovs tray. Potatoes can then be placec in the trays level to tne top of each tray. The clips are then removed, and the hinged flaps closed and secured by means of center pin 12. The crate is then raised to its vertical position, and the spacer boards removed, by first twisting the two sacer hinged board supports 13, to allow easy withdrawal. They are held in vertical position by springs 14. To empty the orate, relsase verrait supay the centre locking pin and then tip the cretE in raverse hcrizontal position.
