Abstract

A picture hook comprises two hooks. D and C/B. Hook D, should be used as an observation hook when deciding if the picture or article to be displayed is suitable in its surrounding environment, if suitable and no security is required then hook D will become the permanent hook, if security is required then the picture or article will be presented to hook B/C and the picture wire passed between B and G thus securing the picture or article. In order to remove the picture or article from the hook then a long straight edge should be pressed against B in a downwards motion away from C, the picture wire can now be passed through B and C and withdrawn from the hook. <IMAGE>

Description

THEFT PROOF TAMPER PROOF PICTURE HOOK This invention relates to a theft proof, tamper proof picture hook.
Picture hooks are well known pieces of hardware which are normally made of an oblong piece of strong metal shaped in such a manner as to form a hook at the bottom which will accommodate the wire of the picture or article to be suspended for display, then fixed to a wall by means of a nail through the top of the hook.
Picture hooks however do not provide any means of security from tampering or theft especially when the articles or pictures are displayed in public.
According to the present invention there is provided a theft proof, tamper proof picture hook whereby two hooks are contained within the same assembly, the lower hook being used as an observation hook when deciding whether a picture or an article for display is suitable in the surrounding environment, if suitable and security is not required then this can be used as the permanent hook.
If the picture or article to be displayed requires security then after using the observation hook it should be moved to the upper hook where the necessary security from theft and tampering is provided.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the oblong piece of metal before cutting and shaping of the hooks, viewed face on; Figure 2 shows the complete hook after cutting and shaping, viewed from the side.
Referring to the drawing in Fig 1, the top part of the hook is formed in such a manner that 1, is bent at 90 degrees to A. 2, is bent at 90 degrees to 1, and 3 is bent at 90 degrees to 2, to form the top part of the hook as shown in Fig 2. Holes are drilled at positions 4 and 5 to accommodate the fixing nail G, which is a separate part and commercially available.
In Fig 1, B and C are cut, down and across the dotted lines. Now referring to Fig 2, B is bent at approximately 45 degrees to A, C is then bent at E, back from A, to form a marriage with B. C, should now be further bent at the tip in such a manner that now forces B, to press upwards on to C, making a parallel tight connection between the two.
D, should now be bent at F, in such a manner as to form the lower hook thus allowing enough space from C, to accommodate the picture wire.
Pictures or articles for observation or those which require no security when displayed should be placed on the lower hook, ail others should be placed on the top hook whereby after passing the picture wire between B and C, Fig 2, any attempt to remove the picture or article on display from the hook will be be impossible due to the fact that if removal is attempted the picture wire will press against B which will in turn press against C, thus preventing removal.
In order to remove from the hook any pictures or articles on display a long straight edge should be manipulated behind the picture or article and pushed downwards on B, Figure 2, creating a gap bea tween B and C enabling the picture wire to pass through this gap and thus facilitating easy removal from the hook.

Claims (3)

1. Referring to Fig 2, there is provided a theft proof, tamper proof picture hook whereby two hooks are contained within the same assembly, one hook, D, being used as an observation hook when deciding whether a picture or article should be considered for display, if security is not required then this hook should be used as the permanent hook.
2. The second hook B/C, when used, provides security from theft and tampering due to the fact that if the picture or article on display is moved or tampered with, then the picture wire presses against B which in turn presses against C thus making it impossible to remove the picture or article from the hook.
3. Pictures or articles on display can be removed from hook B/C by manipulating a long straight edge behind the picture or article and pushing in a downward manner on B, opening gap between B and C thus allowing the picture wire to pass through.
