Abstract

223,413. Fricker, E. H. Nov. 3, 1923. Atmospheric gas burners; gas supply; burners, regulating. - The gas supply to an atmospheric burner is regulated by passing the gas between the coils of a spiral spring 7, which may be compressed or extended by adjusting a plug 2 or a nipple 16, screwed into the ends of a tube 1, one end of the spring being seated in a recess 6 in the plug 2, which has a threaded boss 4 for attachment to a gas supply fitting, and the other end being closed by a boss 8 on a member 9, which is supported in a recess 14 in the nipple 16. The member 9 comprises a central longitudinal rod 12 connecting two oppositely disposed parts 11, fan-shaped in cross-section, the inner ends of which open or close two oppositely disposed fan-shaped sets of orifices 19 in the end wall of the nipple 16 when the latter is rotated, a screw 20 engaging a slot between the parts 11 to prevent rotation of the member 9. The outer end of the rod 12 is cut away so that a central ring of orifices 21 is always open. The nipple 16 may be integral with, or secured to, the tube 1. The Provisional Specification describes also a construction in which gas passes from the exterior to the interior of the spring. The inner end of the spring is closed by a disc, adapted to be adjusted by means of a screwed rod passing through an internally threaded boss at the rear of a chamber on which the tube is screwed or by means of a screw passing through the wall of the tube and having an inclined inner end. The other end of the spring is seated in a recess in a disc of the same diameter as the tube, the disc, which is prevented from rotating being provided with a central ring of perforations and carrying an axially projecting rod having a double fanshaped head. Gas is supplied to the chamber through a transverse tube from a second valvecontrolled chamber.
