Abstract

223,275. Tizard, E. June 20, 1923. Road - traffic signals on vehicles.-Relates to operating means for that kind of stopping and turning signal in which one or both of a pair of semaphore arms mounted at the sides of the vehicle are adapted to be swung out from a normal vertical position to a horizontal indicating position, electric lamps, having their circuits closed on operation of the handlever controlling the signal arms, being provided to indicate the signals at night. According to the invention, the operating hand-lever 5, Figs. 1 and 3, has an extension 6 beyond its pivot 7, which extension bears agadnst one of a pair of independent rockers 10 mounted on a common pivot 11, and carrying the cables 4 operating the signal arms, so that according to the direction in which the lever 5 is moved, the corresponding signal arm is operated. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the lever 5 carries a spring-trigger for engagement in recesses 15, 16 to close the circuits of the lamps 9. In a modified form shown in Fig. 3, the circuits of the lamps are closed bv the contact of the rockers 10 with contacts 18, 19 mounted at the side, and a pivoted lever 20 is provided to separate both rockers 10 simultaneously when it is desired to signal " stop."
