Driving-arrangements for screw propellers.- In an electric ship-propulsion set comprising a turbine driven generator supplying an electric motor, the electric connection changing switches are interlocked with the steam supply control gear in order to prevent reversal while the turbine speed is unduly high. In the set shown in the drawing a turbine 2 drives a three-phase generator 1 supplying current to an induction motor 8. Connection-changing switches 9 - - 13 between the generator and motor are normally subject to master-controllers 20, 21, while the turbine governor mechanism 3 is operated by a pilot motor 27 or alternatively by a handle 30. If the governor mechanism is advanced beyond an amount corresponding to a predetermined steam admission, a switch drum 71, 72 connected through gearing is advanced to a position where it makes hold-on circuits for the operating magnets of the switches 9 .. 13 and also of the generator field switch 7, regardless of the controllers 20, 21. In normal working the controller 21 supersedes the controller 20 when the former is moved from its " off " position.
