Abstract

A hooking or fastening device (10) of a locking unit for 150 containers or similar structures includes a movable bolt or head 22 integral to a rod 18 secured to a container door and a fixed member or keeper 24 mounted on the container frame; the two members being engageable together and each being provided with a holed tab, 30, 32, 44, 45, said tabs being lined up to permit the locking by means of a padlock L or other safety locks. The bolt and keeper are provided with known tapered formations which are designed to prevent movement during loading or transport. <IMAGE>

Description

SECURITY HOOKING DEVICE FOR LOCKING UNITS TO BE MOUNTED FOR EXAMPLE ON CONTAINER DOORS DESCRIPTION Container door locking units are generally known which include one or more rods mounted on a door so as to be rotatable around their longitudinal axis; at both ends each rod is provided with a hooking head capable of engaging with a fixed hooking element secured to the container frame.
Such hooking devices have to met different requirements, i.e. they have to withstand racking stresses and to provide for a security locking. As far as the hooking device including r head ( movable member) and a fixed member is concerned, several eolutionc have been worked out and are presently in us One known solution (Italian Patent No. 837, 5R7) includes a rib projecting from the hooking surface of the fixed element and a corresponding groove on the head, in order to permit that the projecting rib and the groove engage together and oppose the racking stresses to which the container is exposed due to the load and the vehicle movements. Zn these devices one or more padlocks, generally applied between a handle secured to the rod and a corresponding fixed element on the door, provide for safety against possible tempering A drawback with this type of locking units is that the padlock applied on the handle easily break.
In a further known hooking device (British Published Patent Application UK-A-2138068) the hooking head is provided with a holed end arranged between two holed projections integral with a fixed member of the device; the mutual engagement of the head ond and of the projections opposes the racking stresses on the container; through the maligned holes of the projecting parts and of the device head ends a padlock can be inserted. A disadvantage encountered with this solution is the possible weakening caused by the holes for the padlock insertion1 said holes existing in components with the function of opposing to the racking stresses.
An aim of this invention is to overcome the disadvantages of the devices presently available on the market and to realize a hooking device of the above-mentione type, which is resistant to racking and safely lockable against possible tapering.
The new device which is the object of this application includes Z hook-like or spike-like head and a fixed member engaged to each other , the fixed member being provided with a seat suitable for receiving and engaging the head member as well as with a projecting rib located in the seat; the head member having a groove for engaging the rib with the purpose of opposing racking stresses; said device being characterized in that the head and the fixed member include projecting tabs provided with corresponding holes, suitable for the insertion of a padlock or similar.
Therefore in the new new device the locking and security means are distinct from the antiracking means, thus allowing higher antiracking resistance together with the security locking possibility, as compared with the previous technique.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the enclosed figures, wherein: Figure 1 is a broken-away front elevetional view of a locking unit mounted on the container door shown in a reduced scale; Figure 2 shows a locking device in accordance with this application in a locking position; Figure 3 shows the looking device head member in lateral view; Figure A is a bottom view of the member shown in Figure 3; Figure 5 is a sectional view along line 5-5 in Figure 3; Figure 6 is a part sectional lateral view of the hooking device fixed member; Figure 7 is s plan vies of the member shown in Figure 6; Figure 8 shows the fixed member coupled with the head member in locking position, with the head member drawn in sectional view.
Figure 1 snows a hooking device 10 in accordance with the invention, mounted on a frame 11 of a container 12 and on a door 14 respectively, the docr being secured to the frure 11 by means of hinges 15.
Device 10 is part of a locking or closure unit indicated as a whole by reference 16, which generally includes a rod 18 mounted on door la by means of brackets l9, 19 in which the rod can rotate around its longitudinal axis. On the rod is mounted a handle 20, or any other conventional operating means.
As one can see in Figure 2, device 10 includes a hook like head 22 and a fixed member 2a.
The hook shaped head 22 has a beak-shaped projection 26 at right angle with the axis of body 23, divided by a deep circumferential groove 28, defining sloping antiracking walls 29. The head on the side opposite to the beak-shaped projection 26 is fitted with a tab 30 substantially orthogonal to the rod axis and provided with a hole 32, whose axis is substantially parallel to the rod axis.
A projection 31 projects out of the body 23 and has a further antiracking surface 33.
The fixed member 24 (Figures 6, 7, 8 ) includes a base plate portion 34 suitable for being secured to the container frame, said portion on one side extending to define a shoulder plate 36 and a retaining arm 38; both extensions enclose a cavity or seat AO for receiving the head ember From parts 35, 3d, 36, a rib 42 projects into seat 40 and has sloping antiracking walls 43 capable of cooperating with surfaces 29 on the head. A tab 44, having a through hole 5, extends outwardly from shoulder plate 36.
The head member 22 is inserted into the seat 42, in the fixed member 24, in t position in which the beak-shaped projection faces the fixed component, and then, or at the same time, it is turned one fourth turn in order to be positioned it in the locking position as shown in the figures, wherein the beak portion 26 is held by arm 38 and the groove 28 receives the rib 42, so that surfaces 29 and a3 can cooperate to oppose racking stresses.
In such a position holes 32 and 45, respectively, of the head tab 30 and of the fixed member tab Aa, are lined up and ovcrlapped to allow the insertion of a security locking means, e.g. a padlock loop L in figure 1.
