Abstract

A roof tile rain collector, has a trough (1) which can be used to collect natural resources in the form of water from various types of roofs. The collector is secured to the roof battens by adjustable arms (4) and the water, (i.e.,rain/snow), collected is carried via the outlet pipe (7) to the cold water tank using gravity and natural water levels, to be stored. <IMAGE>

Description

ROOF TILE RkIN COLLECTOR This invention relates to a roof tile rain collector.
Rain collectors such as water butts are well known for use at ground level and outside. moreover rain collected in this way for internal water supplies would be expensive and need the agent of a pump.
According to the present invention there is provided a roof tile collector comprising a trough in the forn of a sealed ended half cylinder providing over spill facility ane? a grid cover, means for securing the trough to the roof battens, adjustable legs and arms provided with a hinged sleeve to slide under tiles and an outlet pipe.
A- specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the roof tile collector in position on the roof; Figure 2 illustrates a cross section of the rain collector on the roof, with outlet pipe to tank.
Referring to the drawing the rain collector comprises a trough in the form of a sealed half cylinder 1 providing over spill facility 2 and a grid cover 3, secured to the roof battens with adjustable arms 4 by, for example lugs or screws. At the base of the trough adjustable legs 5 are provided and a hinged sleeve 6 to slide under tiles and an outlet pipe 7 is provided on the trough with suitable connectors for securing to the water tank 8.
In order to collect the rain, the roof area above the rain collector. allows the rain to run down the roof into the trough as shown in figure 1. The sleeve acts as a channel to stop the water escaping under the trough. The rain collected flows through the outlet pipe 7 into the water.
tank 8 making sure that the pipe 7 is horizontal, and the top of the rain collector 1 is not higher than that of the tank it is serving as shown in figure 2. As water finds its own level this will also act as an overflow for the tank 8.
In order to stop any large amounts of water splashing over the top of the rain collector 1 an over spill facility 2 has been provided as shown in figure 1.
In order to stop debris (for example leaves), collecting a grid cover 3 has been provided as shown in figure 1.
In order to take advantage of rain falls the ball cock can be adjusted to allow spare capacity within the tank as shown in figure 2,or additional tanks added.
