Description
nnn A i_ z 16 4 0 JSS041089 - 1 A SLEEPING BAG HAVING A RELEASABLE HOOD
The invention relates to a sleeping bag comprising a sleeping chamber with a lateral zipfastener and a hood which is connected releasably to the sleeping chamber by a fastener extending in the region of the upper edge.
Such sleeping bags are known from US Patent No. 4,183,111 and can be opened by way of a laterally placed zip or sliding clasp fastener and unfolded, so that wide covers are formed. In this configuration, there are provided on the upper side and on the lower side respectively hoods stored in respective pockets. Since, in each case, only one hood can be used, the second hood represents an increased expenditure. Furthermore, the second hood could be detached by way of a releasable fastener and used as a pillow, but it is thereby easy to lose.
By superimposing two unfolded sleeping bags a double or partner sleeping bag can be assembled as a result of the co-operation of the respective zipfasteners. In this respect, however, one known problem is that heat bridges are formed between the hoods and the sleeping chambers, which in the event of unfavourable weather conditions can lead to undercooling JSS041089 :Ln the throat/neck reg on of the users by way of conductive heat losses.
An object of the present invention is to provide a sleeping bag, of the type previously described in which the removable hood can be connected to the sleeping chamber whilst avoiding the formation of heat bridges.
With this object in view the present invention provides a sleeping bag characterised in that a fastener is disposed running around the sleeping chamber's upper edge at a predetermined distance therefrom and thereby forming a neck frill around the said upper edge. As a result of this measure a sleeping bag is provided which can be unfolded and be combined with a second sleeping bag to form a partner sleeping bag, in which respect both hoods can be connected securely to the lower sleeping bag. The heat bridge caused by the fastener is compensated for by the neck frill thus formed. After superimposing the sleeping bags, the hood or hoods can be drawn together with the aid of a draw cord. The neck frill lies, in this.configuration, inside the hood and prevents body hea from escaping.
A preferable faster consists of a first tape like e JSS041089 portion having a plurality of barbs or hooks and a second tape like portion having a plurality of loops or piles operative to engage with the hooks on the first portion. Such a fastener is sold commercially under the Registered Trade Mark Velcro. Since the user can also come into contact with the outside of the sleeping chamber and skin contact with the hooked portion is unpleasant, provision is made for the fact that the hooked portion of the fastener is preferably directly fastened to the inside of the hood directly in the region of its lower edge and the second looped portion of the fastener is attached to the outside of the sleeping chamber.
The invention will be described further by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 shows a closed sleeping bag in mummy form with a fastener running all around for the releasable fastening of the hood; Fig. 2 shows the removed hood of a sleeping bag.in accordance with Fig. 1; Fig. 3 shows a sleeping bag in accordance with Fig. 1 which has the zip- fastener opened and which is JSS041089 unfolded, with a hood attached at various positions by way of a hook/looped pile fastener; Fig. 4 shows a double sleeping bag formed of two superimposed sleeping bags in accordance with Fig. 1, with two hoods associated with the lower sleeping bag.
The sleeping bag 10 shown in Fig. 1 consists substantially of a sleeping chamber 22 and a hood 15 which is releasably connected to the sleeping chamber 22. The sleeping chamber 22 has, at one lateral edge 24, a zipfastener 14 which-_:s,.,,conducted around its foot part 13. At a predetermined spacing 29 from the upper edge 25 of the sleeping chamber 22 a fastener 23 is so arranged that, with the hood 15 attached thereto, a neck frill 21 is formed. In this way an air chamber is formed during use between the hood 15 and the sleeping chamber 22 thereby avoiding the formation of a possible heat bridge in the region of the fastener 23. A draw cord 19 is located in the region of the upper edge 25 of the sleeping chamber 22.
As shown by Fig. 2, the hooked portion or tape 16 of a Velcro type hook/looped pile fastener 23 is attached to the inside 27 of the hood 15 in the region of its lower edge 28. A respective draw cord 18 is likewise provided for the hood 15. With the draw cords JSS041089 18 and 19 the hood 15 or respectively the sleeping chamber 22 can be drawn together and the body heat of the user can be substantially retained within the sleeping bag 10.
The looped portion or tape 17 of the Velcro type fastener 23 is disposed running around the sleeping bag's upper part 11 at a predetermined spacing 29 from the upper edge 25 and on the sleeping bag's lower part 12. The hooked tape 16, provided with barbs, of the fastener 23 is disposed without spacing directly on the inside 27 of the hood 15 in the region of its lower edge 28.
With the aid of the edge located zip-fastener 14 a sleeping bag 10 can be opened as far as around the foot part 13 and be unfolded along its fold line 31, as is shown in Fig. 3. In this unfolded or cover disposition a respective half of the zip-fastener 14 extends therearound. The hood 15 can be connected with its hooked tape 16 at any desired position to the looped tape 17, now positioned on the outside 26 of the opened sleeping chamber 22. Instead of the Velcro type fastener 23, a conventional zipfastener would be possible.
As is shown in Fig. 4, an opened and unfolded JSS041089 sleeping bag 10 can be connected to a second sleeping bag 20 with the aid of the zip-fasteners 14 extending at the sleeping-chamber sides 24. The hood 15a of this second sleeping bag 20 can be detached and fastened to the outside 26 of the sleeping bag 10 lying underneath. In this way there is formed a double or partner sleeping bag 30, in which both hoods 15, 15a are connected securely to one side of the sleeping chamber 22, in side-by-side relationship and at a predetermined spacing 29 from the chamber's upper edge 25. Both users are thus additionally effectively protected against heat loss in the throat, neck and head region.
