Buildings &c., clean- Ing.-Apparatus for removing paint and cleaning surfaces simultaneously by submitting the surface to the action of a heated alkaline solution, such as caustic soda, ammonia, or milk of lime, sprayed on together or separately, and with or without a steam or air blast, comprises, in one form, a steam boiler 1, Fig. 1, which may be put into communication with tanks 3, 4, 7, 8 containing various solutions of alkali and with auxiliary heating- tanks 5, 6. The solutions, singly or mixed, are sprayed on to the surface to be treated by parallel nozzles, a pump 15 forcing the liquids into the spraying pipes 9 and 12, and compressed air &c. for spraying being provided by a tank 16 and compressor 17. Steam is conveyed by a pipe 11. A rack 18 is provided to enable parts of bodies such as motor-cars to be easily reached. A movable plant is mounted on a motor or other chassis. as shown in Fig. 4. The engine 22 may then operate the air compressor 23, and the chemicals contained in the tanks 24, 25 may be heated by circulation round the engine cylinders or through coils heated by the exhaust gases. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) described also cleaning and removing paint from wood, metal, &c. surfaces by immersion, with or without pressure, in vats of heated alkali, or by jets of air or other gas which had been passed through the alkali. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
