Abstract

222,052. Anderson, C. April 12, 1924. Lateral-splash guards.- A splash guard 9 mounted on a spring-urged rod held in a tube 1 having a slot 3 cooperating with a member 4 of oval cross-section is allowed to rise when a link 6 pivoted at 7 is struck by an obstacle so that the member 4 is turned to enter the slot. The member is mounted on a toothed disc 12 which gears with a quadrant 10 pivoted at 11 and connected to rods 14. To restore the guard to operative position a striker 18 on the rod 2 engages a lever 16 having a pin-and-slot connection with an eccentric disc 25 embraced by a strap 26 having a slidable arm 27 carrying a friction wheel 15. This wheel is thus brought into contact with the conical surface 15<a> of the wheel hub and winds a wire 20, attached at 21 to the rod 2, on to a drum 19. A spring urged latch 23 retracts the wheel 15. Specification 214,804 is referred to.
