Abstract
221,928. Lequeux, G. Aug. 15, 1923. Upward current classifiers; jigs; inclinedtrough wet-separating apparatus.-Ores, coal, or other granular materials are stratified by a preliminary gravimetric separation and the lower strata are then subjected to the action of an upward current classifier while the upper strata pass over an inclined plate arranged above the upward current classifier and protecting these strata from the action of the upward current. In Fig. 1, material supplied at a is carried by water on to a perforated screen c supported on pivoted weighted links d and oscillated by cams j acting through a roller on an adjustable rod g and links e, f; material passing through the screen is discharged at o and the remaining material is stratified, water supplied upwardly through pipes l assisting the action. The upper layers pass over a damper m and inclined pipes u, u<1> to the damper-controlled outlet n; the lower layers pass below the plates and are subjected to upward currents of water supplied through a header g, valves r and a series of passages y. In a modification, the screen c is omitted, the material being carried by water down an inclined shoot in which it is stratified before reaching the upward current classifier. In Fig. 5, the plates u, u', are replaced by a dished member carried by a screen u<11> through which water and heavier parts of the upper layers of the material pass to an outlet 6.
