Abstract
A stamp pad container is provided with a seal (11) to prevent the evaporation of ink from the pad when the container is closed. The seal is of trough-shaped cross-section and has a ridge (12) running along the base of the trough and a further ridge (13) running along an outer side wall of the seal. The seal is received in a groove on one half of the container and is retained in place by the side wall ridge (13). The other ridge (12) makes sealing contact with the other half of the container when the container is held in its closed position by a locking mechanism (14). <IMAGE>
Description
STAMP PAD CONTAINER
The present invention relates to a stamp pad container
There is known a stamp pad container comprising a main body and a lid member hinged to the main body on one side and adapted to close the main body. In such a stamp pad container, it is desired to prevent the leakage and volatilization of stamp ink when the stamp pad container is closed by the lid member.
Japanese Utility Model Disclosure No. 57-57961 discloses a stamp pad container comprising a main body, a hinged lid member and ridge-groove type sealing means provided between the main body and the lid member, said sealing means having a relatively widened contact area.
In such an arrangement, however, the ridge-groove type sealing means can not fully prevent the volatile stamp ink from volatilizing even with the use of the widened contact area.
To overcome such a disadvantage, a sealing member has been provided between the lid member and the main body so as to increase the sealing effect in the aforementioned arrangement. Since such a sealing member is engaged by both the lid and body in a surface contact manner, it is required that the sealing-member is tightly clamped between the lid and the body to prevent the volatilization of the stamp ink out of the stamp pad container through any possible gap.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a container of the aforementioned type in which a sealing member can more effectively seal the stamp pad container with only a slight clamping force.
According to the present invention there is provided a stamp pad container comprising a main body member and a lid member hinged to said main body member and adapted to close said main body member, wherein a groove is formed in one of said body and lid members at an area at which they are to be sealed one with respect to the other when said lid member is in its closed position, the groove extending along the entire periphery thereof, and a resilient sealing member having a trough-shaped configuration in cross-section, said sealing member extending in, and along the length of, said groove said sealing member including at least two ridges which extend along the length of said sealing member and which are formed respectively on the outer face of the base of said trough and the outer face of one sidewall of the trough.
A stamp pad container embodying the present invention can be designed more effectively to prevent the volatilization of the stamp ink held in the ink absorbing pad when the lid member is positioned in its closed position. In use, the lid member can be pivoted about the hinge to open the stamp pad container, as in the prior art.
For a better understanding of the present invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view, partially broken away, of an embodiment of a stamp pad container;
Figure 2 is a perspective view, partially broken away and partially exploded, of the stamp pad container of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a perspective view, partially broken away, of a resilient sealing member of the container of
Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, a stamp pad container embodying the present invention comprises a main body member 1 which includes a rectangular box-like base 2 having an opened top and a closed bottom to form a space receiving a cassette type stamp pad 3. The stamp pad device also comprises a lid member 4 hinged to the base box 2 on one side through hinge means 5. The lid member 4 can enclose the pad receiving space in the main body member 1.
The cassette type stamp pad 3 includes an ink absorbing material 7 housed in a rectangular box-like cassette body 6 made, for example, of a polyolefin resin material and a cover 8 wrapping the ink absorbing material 6. The pad is held in the cassette body 6 by a cassette frame 9 which is made of the same material as that of the cassette body 6.
When the lid member 4 is closed against the main body member 1 of the stamp pad container, the peripheral bottom edge of the lid member 4 is positioned to engage the peripheral edge of the cassette body 6.
A peripheral groove 10 is formed on the periphery of the inner face of the lid member 4 contacting the main body member 1 of the stamp pad container. The groove 10 includes a sealing member 11 fitted thereinto.
The sealing member 11 is a trough-shaped member made of silicone rubber. The sealing member 11 includes a ridge 12 formed on the outer face of the base of the trough and extending along the length of the sealing member 11 and another ridge 13 formed on the outer face of one sidewall of the trough and extending along the length of the sealing member 11. Each of these ridges 12 and 13 is of a semi-circular configuration in cross-section.
The number of ridges can be suitably selected depending on particular applications. Further, an additional ridge may be formed on the outer face of the other sidewall of the trough-shaped sealing member 11.
The sealing member 11 is tightly fitted into the groove 10 under the action of the resilience of the sealing member 11 such that a portion of the base including the ridge 12, protrudes slightly and downwardly beyond the periphery of the inner face of the lid member 4.
A locking mechanism 14 is also provided to hold the lid member 4 against the box-like base 2 of the main body member 1 when the lid member 4 is closed. In the illustrated embodiment, the locking mechanism 14 includes a locking member 16 pivotably connected with the other side of the lid member 4 through a pivot pin 15. The locking member 16 includes a latching pawl 18 formed therein, the latching pawl 18 being adapted to latch the corresponding edge of the box-like base 2 under the action of a spring 17 when the lid member 4 is in its closed position. Thus, the locking mechanism 14 holds the lid member 4 against the main body 1 with a slight clamping force.
The stamp pad container of the illustrated embodiment further includes means for holding the stamp pad 3 within the base 2, which means includes notches 19 formed in the bottom of the box-like base 2 on one side and pawls 20 formed on the outer wall of the cassette body 6, the pawls 20 adapted to engage the aforementioned notches 19. The holding means further include notches 21 formed on the bottom of the base 2 opposite to notches 19, and resilient pawls 22 formed on the other side of the cassette body 6 and adapted to forcedly engage in the notches 21 in the base 2.
In such an arrangement, the ridge 12 of the sealing member 12 sealingly engages the peripheral top edge of the cassette frame 9 to provide an effective linearcontact seal between the lid member 4 and the main body 1. The other ridge 13 on the sidewall of the troughshaped sealing member 11 sealingly engages the corresponding inner wall of the groove 10 to provide an effective linear-contact seal between the lid member 4 and the sealing member 11. Therefore, the leakage and volatilization of the stamp ink from the ink pad can be properly prevented without tight clamping of the lid member 4 against the main body member 1.
