Abstract

A rock crushing apparatus having a generally frustoconical concave surface 14 which co-operates with a frustoconical convex surface 18 to define a cavity to receive rock to be crushed. The convex surface is reciprocated by an eccentric drive from which a driving force is transmitted via a driven member 32A and a reaction force member 32 to piston 16. The ends of members 32 and 32A are received in flat bottomed socket members 33 which are replaceable by members having their bottom surface facing in a different direction to vary the force applied to piston 16. <IMAGE>

Description

A CRUSHER MECHANISM Background of the Invention The present invention relates to rock crushing apparatus.
Prior Art Disclosed in Australian Patent 492,091 is a rock crushing apparatus.
he rock is crushed between a fixed crushing face and a movable crushing ace reciprocally movable toward and away from the fixed crushing face.
The movable crushing face is reciprocated by means of an eccentric drive employing a pair of arms, one of the arms bearing against the body of the machine and providing a reaction force, with the other arm being attached to the movable crushing face to cause reciprocation chereof. The arms engage within fixed mountings which thereby determine the mechanical aavintage of the apparatus.
The above described apparatus has the disadvantage that the mechanical advantage is always predetermined and fixed and cannot be adjusted for different situations.
Object and Summarv of the Invention It is the object of the present invention to overcome or substantially ameliorate the above disadvantages.
There is disclosed herein a rock crushing apparatus comprising: a generally fixed crushing surface which is generally concave so as to have downwardly sloping side portions extending from an opening trough which rock enters to be crushed; a movable crushing surface which is upwardly convey so as to be received within the hollow defined by said fixed surface so that in -operation therewith a cavity is defined into which the rock is delivered la said opening;; drive means to cause reciprocation of said movable surface toward and away from said fixed surface along a generally upwardly tending axis, said drive means including a driven snaft rotatable about an axis generally normal to said upwardly extending axis, and waving an ercentric portion, a driven member mounted on said eccentric option and -estrained to move in a direction normal to the axis of said snaft and to ngularly oscillate about the axis of said shaft, said force t-ansmitting member having a pair of sockets remote from said shaft, with one socket eing generally uowardly facing, and the other socket being generally zodnwargly facing, a redaction force member extending between tne downwarsiy icing socket and a further fixed socket, a crushir.g force memoir extending etween the upwardly facing socket and a further socket fixed dith reset .0 sat movable surface, and wherein the sockets receive replaceable socket liners with concave socket surfaces which receive the reaction force member and the crushing force member.
Description of the Preferred Embodiment A preferred form of the present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, which schematically depicts in side sectioned elevation a rock crushing apparatus.
In the accompanying drawing there is depicted a rock crushing appartus 10 consisting of a body 11. The body 11 supports a fixed crushing element 12 secured in position by means of fasteners 13. Accordingly the element 12 is replaceable. The element 12 provides a crushing surface 14 which is of a generally frusto-conical configuration so as to be concave with downwardly extending side portions. The surface 14 extends from an upper opening 15 through which rock is delivered to be crushed.
The body 11 provides a sleeve 15 which slidably supports a piston 16. The upper end of the piston 16 has a head 17 providing a movable crushing surface 18 of "frusto-conical" configuration. The surface 18 is received within the hollow defined by the surface 14, and in co-operation with the surface 14 defines a generally angular cavity 19 into which the rock to be crushed is delivered, via the opening 15. The surface 18 is provided by a movable crushing element 20 which is held in position by fasteners, and accordingly is therefore replaceable. Extending downwardly from the head 17 of the piston 16 is a cylindrical portion 21 which slideably engages a cylindrical bearing 22 sandwiched between the ,v!indrical portion 21 and sleeve 15.
The piston 16 is vertically reciprocated along an axis 23 by means or a drive assembly 2. The drive assembly 24 includes a shaft 25 having an eccentric portion 26. The shaft 25 is rotatably driven by a motor not illustrated. Mounted on the eccentric portion 25 is a driven member 27 ranch is caused to move in a direction generally normal to the shaft 25 as nell as to oscillate about the longitudinal axis of the shaft 25 upon rotation thereof. The extremity of the member 27 is provided with a pair of sockets 23 and 29, with the socket 28 generally upward'ly facing, and tne socket 29 generally downwardly facing.Fixed to the body 11 is a further upwardly facing socket 30 while fixed to the piston 15 is a further downwardly facing socket 31. Extending between the sockets 29 and 30 is A reaction force transmitting member 32 while extending between tne sockets 23 and 31 is a crushing force transmitting member 32t, Received within the socket; 28 to 31 are socket members 33 which provide recesses nith flat bottom surfaces 35 which receive the extremities of the members 32 and 32A.
In operation of the above described apparatus, as the shaft 25 rotates, the:member 27 is caused to oscillate along the axis 34. This then causes angular oscillation of the members 32 and 30 and vertical reciprocation of the piston 16. As the piston 16 moves toward and away from the fixed crushing element 12, stone or rock located in the cavity 19 is crushed. The crushed stone falls to a discharge trough 35 wherefrom the crushed stone is removed from the apparatus 10.
It should be appreciated in the above described apparatus 10, that the socket members 33 are removable. This enables socket members 33 to be inserted with their flat surfaces 35 having a different direction within which they face in order to vary the forces applied to the piston 16, that is the angle of the flat surfaces 35 can be adjusted.
