Abstract

A seat for transporting children in a motor vehicle comprises a seat portion arranged to be rigid with a backrest and a supporting member rigidly coupled to said seat portion is provided for bearing on a seat of a motor vehicle. Arranged between the seat portion and supporting member is a sliding member mechanism capable of sliding on a curved guide. The sliding member mechanism comprises means for locking in at least two tilted positions said seat portion and said curved guide means. <IMAGE>

Description

ADJUSTABLE TILTING SEAT FOR TRANSPORTING CHILDREN IN MOTOR VEHICLES The present invention relates to an adjustable tilting seat for transporting children in motor vehicles, the combination and conformation of the parts of which provides the seat with useful characteristics.
There are already known seats for transporting children in motor vehicles including a seat portion proper rigid with a backrest portion, said seat portion being rigidly coupled to a supporting member provided for bearing on the vehicle seat. There are moreover known seats of the above mentioned type which are provided with very complex and expensive tilting adjusting devices which, furthermore, can be tilted exclusively by using the two hands.
The object of the present invention is to provide such a seat for transporting children in motor vehicles which can be easily and quickly tilted by using a single hand.
Another object of the invention is to provide such an adjustable tilting seat which can be safely arranged on a seat of a motor vehicle.
These and other objects of the invention will become more apparent to those skilled in the art from the following disclosure.
The seat for transporting or carrying children in motor vehicles according to the invention is a seat portion rigid with a backrest and a supporting member rigidly coupled to said seat portion provided for bearing on a seat of said motor vehicle and is characterized in that between said seat portion and supporting member there is arranged a sliding member mechanism the sliding member of which slides on a curved guide and in that said sliding member mechanism comprises means for locking in at least two tilted positions said seat portion and said curved guide.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a cross-sectional view of one embodiment of a seat according to the invention.
With reference to the figure, the seat, which is generally indicated at 1, comprises a seat portion proper 2 which is rigid with a backrest 3, said portions having any suitable shape, and a supporting member 4 provided for bearing on a seat 5 of a motor vehicle.
On the supporting member 4 there is centrally mounted, through bolts 6, a member 7 provided with two bridge portions 8,8' each of which is provided with a cross roller 9 and a top portion 10 which is lined by.a low friction material layer.
At the bottom of the seat portion 2 there is affixed, by means of bolts 12, a curved guide 13 so designed and arranged as to freely pass through the arch defined by the bridge portions to bear on the cross rollers 9 and slightly contact the overlying layers 11.
The bottom portion of the curved guide 13 is provided with a plurality of equally spaced holes 14 and on the member 7 there is vertically mounted a pawl 15 which is normally held in a raised position with respect to the member 7 and in engagement with one of the holes 14 by a spring 16. The bottom portion of the pawl 15 is coupled to a mechanism, indicated generally at 17, adapted to vertically displace said pawl 15 by operating a handle 18.
It should be apparent that as the handle 18 is pulled by a single hand (in the direction of the arrow F), the pawl 15 will be disengaged from the related hole 14 so as to allow for the curved guide 13 to slide in the direction of either arrow G-G', thereby consequently tilting the seat 1 (as is shown by the dashed line).
As the handle is released, the spring 16 will tend to raise the pawl 15 which will engage another hole 14 after the seat has been suitably manually displaced.

Claims (6)

1. A seat for transporting children in a motor vehicle comprising a seat portion arranged to be rigid with a backrest and a supporting member rigidly coupled to said seat portion provided for bearing on a seat of a motor vehicle, wherein between said seat portion and supporting member there is arranged a sliding member mechanism capable of sliding on a curved guide means said sliding member mechanism comprising means for locking in at least two tilted positions said seat portion and said curved guide means.
2. A seat according to claim 1, in which said sliding member mechanism comprises a member bearing at least two bridge portions spaced from one another and said curved guide means being arranged to pass therebetween.
3. A seat according to claim 2, in which said curved guide means cooperatively bears on rollers transversely arranged of said bridge portions and slides on low friction material layers provided on the bridge portion oppositely arranged from said rollers.
4. A seat according to claim 1, 2 or 3, in which said means for locking in at least two tilted positions said seat portion to said curved guide comprises a pawl adapted to be engaged selectively with a hole of a plurality of holes formed on said curved guide.
5. A seat according to claim 4, characterized in which said pawl is coupled to a mechanism for vertically displacing said pawl by operating a single handle.
6. A seat for transporting children substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
