TITLE OF THE INVENTION

A SEAT FOR AN AUTOMOBILE

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a seat for an automobile, and particularly to a seat for an automobile in which a back seat can be shifted forwards and back-wards, and a bottom seat can vary its angle to the bottom of the automobile when the bottom seat is moved back and forth.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Generally, conventional seats for automobile can be divided into two kinds, a seat for a motor car and a seat for a bus. In the case of a ~eat for a motor-car, the back seat can not be shifted. The bottom seat can slide on the bottom of car. In the case of a seat for a bus, the back seat can be shifted forwards and backwards. And also, the bottom seat can slide on the bottom of bus. However, seats of the former case can not be used variously, because the back seat is unable to be shifted forwards and backwards. Due to the sliding of the bottom seat, a mat on the bot~om of car may be demaged by the bottom surface of the bottom seat. And ~'^1 3a~S

also, associated mechanical elements may be easily worn due to the friction generated between the bottom seat and the bottom of car. The sea~ of the latter case can be used variously. However, the bo-ttom seat main-tains a constant ang].e to the bottom of bus, ~hereby causing the passenger to feel the reduced comfort. And also, there are problems of the demage of the mat and the possibility of the trouble, as in the former case.

SUMl~IARY OF THE INVENTION

Therefore, an ob,ect of the present invention is to provide a seat for an automobile which is able to eliminate the above-mentioned disadvantages encountered in the prior art.

In accordance with the present invention, this object can be accomplished by providing a seat for an automobile comprising a back seat; a bottom seat; a pair of side brackets mounted on both sides of the bottom of said bottom seat, respectively; a pair of seat support-ing brackets spaced from each other and mounted on the bottom of the automobile; two pairs of legs pivotably arranged between said side brackets and said seat sup-porting brackets, said legs adapted to maintain a con-stant angle between said bottom seat and the bottom of ~8~3i3~5 the automobile and to shift the bottom seat by a cer-tain distance by the pivoting thereof; and a locking means including a pair of handles, a pair of wires, a pair of locking plates, a pair of locking links, and a pair of springs, said locking means adapted to actuate and prevent the pivoting of said legs.

The back seat can be shifted forwards and backwards, by means of two pairs of arms each pair arranged at each side of the seat. Each arm is mounted at one end there-of on the side brac~et and at the other end thereof on the lower end of the back seat. After the back seat is shifted, the bottom seat can be moved by being pushed backwards. At this time, an angle of the botto~ seat to the bottom of the automobile is varied, so that the passenger feels comfort.

The present invention may best be understood with reference to the following description taken in connec-tion with the appended drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
. _ _ _ As shown in the drawings, a seat oE the present invention comprises a back seat 1 and a bottom seat 2.
To the bo-t-tom end of -the back seat 1, a knuckle ~ is attached. To the bottom surface of the bottom seat 2, a side bracket 5 is fixedly mounted. The back seat 1 is pivotly connected to the bottom sea~ 2 by means of arms 21 which are pivotly mounted between the knuckle 4 and the side bracket 5. Between the side bracket 5 mounted to the bottom seat 2 and a seat supporting bracket 7 fixed to the bottom o~ automobile, legs 9a and 9b are pivotly mounted, which have locking protru-sions 8a and 8b, respectively. At the bottom surface of the bottom seat 2, a locking shaft 11 is fixedly mounted. To the locking shaft 11, a locking plate 12 and a locking link 14 having a locking groove 13 are pivotly mounted. The locking plate 12 is also fixed to the locking link 14. To the upper and lower ends of the locking plate 12, wires 16a and 16b are connected, which are also connected to handles 15a and 15b, res-pectively.

The reference numeral 17 designates a locking re-lease lever, 18 a locking arm, 19 a shaft, 20 a locking pin, 22 a leak lining mechanism, 23 a wire lever, 24 a shaft,-25 a hook, 26 a spring holding hole, 27 a spring, . ~ .,, ,:

~36~3~5 and A to D bolts. And also reference numerals 3 and 6 designate bodies of the back seat 1 and the bottom seat 2, respectively.

The back seat 1 according to the present invention can be shifted forwards and backwards. When the shift of the back seat 3 is required, a passenger lifts the locking release lever 17 upwards, so that the locking arm 18 fixed to said locking release lever 17 pivots in counter-clockwise about the shaft 19, causing the lock-ing pin 20 to be released from the locking arm 18. In this state, as the passenger pushes the back seat 3 in the required direction, the back seat 3 is shifted to the required position by the linkage movement of the arm 21 connected by the knuckle 4 to said back seat.

After the back seat 3 is shifted to the required position, the passenger operates the leak linin~ mech-anism 22 positioned at the lower end of said back seat, in order to vary an angle between the back seat 3 and the bottom seat 6 into an angle at which the passenger feels most comfortable.

After the back seat 3 has been shifted as described hereinbe~ore, each seat is faced to the next seat. In this case, the space between seats faced to each other becomes short to cause the passengers to be discomfort.

`
.
. ~ .

3~i To prevent such discomfort of the passengers, the bottom seat 6 will be moved backwards. In this movement of the bottom seat 6, an angle between the bottom seat 6 and the bottom surface of the automobile can be varied in accordance with the present invention. Even in the case when the back seat is shifted, therefore~ the bottom seat 6 can be adjusted to maintain a constant angle at which the passen~er feels comfort.

Now backward and forward directional movements of the bottom seat 6 will be described in detail.

In order to change the position of legs 9a and 9b from the condition shown in FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, as a first step the locking device shown in FIG. 4 has to be operated. That is, the passenger firstly lifts the handle 15a upwards positioned at the bottom of the bottom seat 6. Thereby, the wire lever 23 fixed con-nected to the handle 15a pivots about the shaft 24 in clockwise, so that the wire 16a is pulled toward the left of FIG. 4. Accordingly, the wire 16a forces the locking plate 12 and the shaft 11 to pivot in clockwise, so that the locking link 14 fixed to said shaft 11 pivots in clockwise, thereby causing the locking protrusion 8b to be released from the locking ~roove 13. Thus, legs 9a and 9b can he pivoted freely.

~:

~6)3~;

It should be noted that most constituting elements of the present invention, that is, the knuckle, the side bracket, the arms, the legs, and the locking lever are arranged both sides of the back seat or the bottom seat.

In the released condition of the lockiny device as above-mentioned, pushing the bottom seat 6 toward the direction "F" causes legs mounted between the side bracket 5 fixed to the bottom of the bottom seat 6 and the seat supporting bracket 7 by means of bolts A to D
to pivot about bolts A and B, respectively, in counter-clockwise by an angle ~. By such pivoting of legs 9a and 9b, the side bracket 5, and thus, the bottom seat 6 are shifted horizontally by a distance "Q".

Before the bottom seat 6 is shifted, the front level of the bottom seat 6 is higher than the rear level thereof (for example, by an angle ~), so that the pas-sanger can feel comfortable. And also, after the bottom seat 6 is shifted, the front level of the bottom seat is higher than the rear level thereof (for example, by an angle ~), so that the passenger can always feel com-fortable.

After legs 9a and 9b pivot by an angle ~, locking protrusions 8a and 8b of said legs are moved from T to T' and from S to S', respectively. That is, although ' " -, ~8~33~S

the protrusion 8b is engaged in the locking groove 13 of the locking link 14 before the bottom seat 6 is shifted, said protrusion 8b is moved to the position s', and said protrusion 8a is moved to the position T' and newly engaged in the locking groove 13 of the locking link 14. This engagement is accomplished by the res-toring spring force of the spring 27 which is connected at one end thereof to a hook 25 formed on the side bracket 5 and at the other end thereof to a hole 26 formed on the middle of the locking link 14.

On the other hand, when the bottom seat 6 is re-quired to be shifted reversely, the passenger firstly lifts the handle 15b upwards. Thereby, the wire 16b is pulled toward the right of FIG. 4. Accordingly, the wire 16b forces the locking link 14 to pivot about the shaft ll in clockwise, so that the locking protru-sion 8a can be disengaged from the locking groove 13.
In this condition t pushing the bottom seat 6 toward the direction opposite to the direction "F" causes legs 9a and 9b to pivot about bolts ~ and B, and the bottom seat 6 to be shifted, by the distance "Q", towards the right of FIG. 4. At this time, the bottom seat 2 maintain an angle ~, to the bottom of the automobile, so that the locking protusion 8b can be engaged in the locking groove of the locking link 14, thereby con-straining the side bracket 5 to move right and left.

3~

As appaxent from the above description, the seat of the present inventlon enables the backward and for-ward shifts of the back seat. And also, the bottom seat can be shifted by a certain distance by pivoting legs and maintain a certain angle to the bottom of the automobile, so that the passenger can always feel com-fortable, without any demage of the mat on the bottom of the automobile.
