Abstract

The warning device has a transmitter, Figure 1, not shown, which is connected to or contained in the piece of property to be protected and sends out a coded signal to a receiver/decoder 5, 6 which warns the wearer if the piece of property is displaced by a pre-determined radius from the wearer of the receiver/decoder. <IMAGE>

Description

LOST OR STOLEN PROPERTY WARNING DEVICE.
This invention relates to a lost or stolen property warning device.
The function of the invention is to give an audible, visual or audible and visual warning or a warning by any other means that a piece of property is displaced by a previously determined radius from the owner of the property. The warning would be given if the owner of the property forgot to take the property with him, that is to say for example if the owner forgot to pick up his property when leaving a flight departure lounge a an airport or the property was removed from him by common theft.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows schematically a transmitting device which would be affixed to or contained in the property to be protected.
Figure 2 shows schematically a receiving device which would be affixed to the owner of the property.
Referring to Figure 1 a transmitting device driven by a battery sends out a coded signal. The coded signal can take a variety of forms for example it could be digitally encoded or frequency encoded. The coded signal is derived by use of a code generator 4 and a solid state switching device 3.
The coded signal is then transmitted via the transmission device 3, this would be an antenna if radio signalling is to be utilised or a transducer if ultrasonic signalling is to be utilised.
This transmitting device would be attached to or contained in the property to be protected.
Referring to Figure 2 a receiver/decoder device driven by a battery receives and decodes the signal from the transmission device Figure 1. The receiver/decoder comprises a receiving device 5, this would be an antenna if radio signalling is to be utilised or a transducer if ultrasonic signalling is to be utilised.
The signal is decoded by the signal decoder 6 and is then compared to the reference level 8 using the signal strength comparator 9. If the signal strength is below the reference level due to the displaced distance between the transmitter and receiver/decoder then the output warning device 10 is activated. If an audible warning device is to be used then the mute audible warning 11 would be included to allow the audible alarm to be muted for times when an audible alarm would be inconvenient. Also included in the invention is a signal direction indicator 11 to indicate the direction of displacement from the transmitter and receiver decoder.

Claims (1)

1. A lost or stolen warning device comprising a battery powered transmitter which sends out a coded signal and is attached to or contained in the piece of property to be protected and a receiver/decoder which receives the coded signal from the transmitter, decodes the signal and warns the wearer of the reciever/decoder if the property to be protected has moved outside a pre-determined radius from the wearer of the receiver/decoder.
