Abstract

A wood and/or coal, solid fuel or bio-fuel stove system comprises a standard stove body A onto which can be fitted various top C and intermediate B sections. These tops and intermediate sections have various heating purposes i.e. water heating, warm air ducting and or improved combustion efficiency. These components are interchangeable, and could be fitted to appliances of the same type at a future date. A corded, gasketed or cemented channel or flange provides a smoke tight seal between the sections. <IMAGE>

Description

Modular stove system This invention relates to a roomheating or central heating stove or domestic heating appliance or combination of the two. This stove will be fueled by wood, coal, solid fuel or other bio-fuels or a combination of these fuels often termed "multi-fuels".
Roomheating or central heating stoves comprise of metal, stone or ceramic cases usualy fitted with doors inside which a fire is burnt. These stoves are either installed freestanding in a room or partly inset in a wall or chimney breast. Stoves are usually factory assembled and need only a few components fitted once they are delivered to site these components are usualy fixed using screws, bolts, clips or other fixings provided. Tops, bottoms, fronts, backs and sides of these stoves are usualy bolted, welded, or sealed in position and would only be dismantled durring a major repair or rebuild. Occasionaly a top of a stove is removable in order to facilitate replacement of the lining of the stove. There is a huge variety of such appliances varying in size, shape, colour, and construction, some appliances are more suited to some fuels than others, and some appliances are available with water heating boilers factory fitted or boilers that may be fitted at a later date.
According to the present invention there is provided a stove body that is a standard unit and is not a compleat and usable stove that has a gasketed chanel or similar flange to allow for location of a variety of tops in order to make the stove body into a compleat and usable stove without the use of bolts or other fixings.
This modular stove system allows for the addition or substitution of a top that changes a free standing stove into one that would be commonly termed an inset, a stove that is partialy inset into a wall or chimney breast and thus occuping less room space than a freestanding stove. Freestanding stoves are sometimes installed into fireplaces but they will usualy have conciderably more air space round them than inset fires have.
This modular stove system includes the option of an intermediate section either between the top and stove body or protruding into the stove top or into the stove body or both. This intermediate section housing a catalytic combustor or other high temperature secondry burning chamber or after burner.
This modular stove system includes the option of an intermediate section either between the top and body of the stove or protruding into the top or stove body or both. This intermediate section housing a water boiler without water pipes travelling through the walls of the stove body or base section.
This modular stove system can be fitted with various special tops or canopies which contain or partialy contain water boilers and or catalytic combustion units or other high temperature combustion or after burning system. These water boilers are supported by the top or canopy of the stove and so a new top can be fitted to the modular stove body containing the boiler or combustor without need for any fixings to the stove body other than the flange and gasket previously described.
A specific embodiment of this invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1. Shows a perspective view of a stove body and intermediate section with an example of the type of locating flange that might be used.
Figure 2. Shows views of a stove body and inset top section.
Figure 4. Shows a standard stove body fitted with an intermediate section in order to improve the combustion efficiency of the appliance. In this case a catalytic secondry combustion chamber has been fitted, other high temperature combustion systems can also be fitted in this way.
Figure 5. Shows a standard stove body fitted with an intermediate section in order to alter the performance of the appliance. In this illustration a boiler section has been fitted, a heat exchanger blowing hot air can also be fitted in a similar way.
Figure 6. Shows a standard stove body fitted with a top or canopy containing a water heating boiler that has no fixings to the stove body other than the gasketed chanel previously described.
Reffering to the drawings the stove body is not a complete and usable stove in itself. The stove body is made into a complete and usable stove by the addition of one or more components fitted to the stove body. These components are not just stove tops but have specific function i.e. water heating, increased combustion efficiency or hot air blowing. Fitting of these components is by way of asbestos, ceramic, or glass fibre rope or other gasketing material allowing top to be lifted free for maintainance.

Claims (6)

CLAIMS.
1 A stove system that incorporates a corded, gasketed, or cemented chanel or flange in order to make a smoke tight seal between the stove body and a variety of tops or intermediate sections these tops or intermediate sections serving different heating purposes these tops and or intermediate sections can be interchanged with great ease and at a future date if neccesary.
2 A stove system as claimed in claim 1 that can be fitted with a top specificaly designed to allow the stove to be instaled partialy into a recces while the front section of the stove body and and the canopy protrudes into the room.
3 A stove system as claimed in claim one that has a top or variety of tops supporting a water heating boiler or other liquid containing heat exchanger, the water or other liquid containing heat exchanger not being directly fixed to the stove body and the water connecting pipes to the water boiler not passing through the body of the stove.
4 A stove system as claimed in claim one and three that has a top or variety of tops supporting a catalytic combustor. The combustor being supported by the top in sach a way that if the top was removed from the body of the stove the combustor would come away with the stove top.
5 A stove system as claimed in claime one and two that can be fitted with one or more intermediate sections between the stove body and the stove top these intermediate sections housing or partialy housing a water heating boiler cr other liquid containing heat exchanger and or catalytic combustor or other high temperature combustion system designed to improve the efficiency of the appliance.
6 A stove system as claimed in any preceding claims that has one or more intermediate sections between the stove body and stove top. This intermediate section having or supporting a chamber, vessel, pipe or system of tubes or pipes not carrying the products of combustion. One or more of these heat exchangers being connected to a fan or other air or other gas ducting system in order to transfer heat.
