Description
1 1 V 30 n 2 2 1 1^', 0 7 2 L APPARATUS FOR INSERTING AT LEAST ONE TEST
VESSEL PROVIDED WITH A STEEL BALL, INTO A MEASURING DEVICE IN ANALYTICAL EQUIPMENT This invention relates to an apparatus for inserting at least one test t> vessel provided with a steel ball, into a measuring device in analytical equipment.
Test vessels which are fitted with steel balls and which have to be inserted into a measuring device in analytical equipment, e.g. a multichannel ball coagulometer, have hitherto been individually and manually inserted into the measuring device, then provided with the steel balls and c) finally filled e.g. with blood plasma.
The insertion of the individual vessels into the measuring device and 0 the provision of each vessel with one steel ball takes up a considerable amount of time and is consequently relatively expensive.
There is thus a need for a generally improved apparatus for inserting 0 at least one test vessel provided with a steel ball into a measuring device in analytical equipment, which permits rational and rapid insertion of a plurality of test vessels in such a measuring device.
0 According to the present invention there is provided an apparatus for inserting at least one test vessel with a steel ball into a measuring device in analytical equipment, which apparatus includes a holding and sealing strip 0 detachably connectable to one or more test vessels so as completely to cover a charging orifice of the or each test vessel.
This construction greatly simplifies the insertion of test vessels provided with steel balls into a measuring device in analytical equipment and considerably shortens the operation. Not only is each vessel already provided with a steel ball, but in addition the combination of a plurality of test vessels with a holding and sealing strip makes it possible to insert a plurality of vessels into the measuring device simultaneously in one operation. All that is then necessary is to remove the strip completel-y.
2 This considerably shortens the preparatory time for this type of T analysis.
For a better understanding of the present invention, and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of apparatus of this invention showing a holding and sealing strip with a plurality of test vessels attached to it; r) Figure 2 is a view in the direction of arrow 11 in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a partial plan view of the holding and sealing strip of Figure 1 to an enlarged scale; and Figure 4 is a partial section taken along the line IV-Rl in Figure 3 to an enlarged scale.
In Figures 1 to 4 is shown apparatus of the invention for inserting at C.
least one test vessel 11 provided with a steel ball 12, into a measuring device. The apparatus includes a holding and sealing strip 10 advantageously r) 0 made of paper, carboard, plastics or similar flexible material.
The strip 10 acts firstly as a carrier for a plurality of test vessels 11, and secondly as a closure for charging apertures 13 of the vessels 11.
As indicated in the drawings, the vessels 11 are each equipped with a steel ball 12, which is prevented from dropping out of them through the use of the strip 10.
The holding and sealing strip 10 is constructed so that it can be 0 removed from the vessels 11 relatively easily if required, i.e., in the last resort it is detachably joined to them.
A particularly suitable type of connection can be seen clearly from, 1 It 3 Figures 3 and 4.
As shown in these two figures, the test vessels, which are basically substantially cylindrical, have an integral flange 14 moulded onto them extending round them in the region of the charging orifice 13.
0 The strip 10 has two substantially L-shaped apertures 15 in the area where each test vessel is to be supported.
The longer limbs 16 of these apertures 15 extend parallel with one 0 another at a spacing corresponding at least to the diameter of the vessel 11.
0 0 The shorter limbs 17 of each of the apertures 15 point away from one another, as shown particularly clearly in Figure 3.
The lenerth of these shorter limbs corresponds approximately to the width of the above-mentioned flange 14 of a test vessel 11.
C) The apertures 15 enable a test vessel 11, so to speak, to be clamped to the holding and sealing strip 10 by its peripheral flancre 14 with C 0 deformation of the strip material.
In order to prevent accidental shifting of an attached vessel or unintentional release of a vessel from the strip 10, the strip 10 has a stamped out portion 18 between pairs of associated apertures 15, in the region of the shorter limbs 17, the stamped out portion extending to the attachment side of each particular vessel 11. It substantially secures the position of a vessel inserted in the apertures 15.
The whole unit - comprising the holding and sealing strip 10 with the 0 test vessels 11 attached and containing steel balls 12, can be handled easily and conveniently without any risk of the steel balls 12 getting lost. It is also 0 possible for the vessels 11 attached to the strip 10 to be inserted into a measurincy device in analytical equipemnt together and in one operation.
c) 0 Following its insertion the complete strip 10 can similarly be removed in one -w, 4 operation, thus considerably simplifying and shortening the preparatory work C) involved in carrying out an analysis.
I.
Units different from those illustrated may of course be used. In the example shown ten test vessels 11 are attached to the strip 10. Different numerical units are possible, with either more of less test vessels 11 connected to a strip 10.
Other methods of joining the strip 10 to the vessels 11 may of course be employed. The only decisive factors are, firstly that the charging orifices 13 of the vessels 11 must be completely covered by the strip 10, and secondly, that it must be relatively easy to remove the strip 10 from the vessels 11 if required.
