A lampshade assembly (10) is supplied as a kit of parts to make a less bulky package for a store or shop to sell. It comprises a boss (12) and four radial arms (14), assembled with screws to make a lampshade frame (22), and four curved glass panels (16). <IMAGE>

Description

"Lampshade" This invention relates to lampshades One known type of lampshade assembly comprises glass panels each curved in two planes and a lampshade frame to which the glass panels are mounted. This known assembly is very bulky for a shop or store to have any substantial number of to sell and is equally bulky for a purchaser to take away or for the shop or store to deliver.
The invention provides a kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in claims 1 to 10 and a lampshade assembly assembled from such a kit as claimed in claim 11.
The invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a lampshade assembly assembled from a kit of parts in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the lampshade assembly of Fig 1; Fig. 3 is a section on III - III of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an exploded view in perspective of the boss, one arm, one panel and fixing screws, with one washer, of the kit of parts of Figs. 1 to 3; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the underside of the boss of Figs. 1 to 4.
Referring to the drawings, the lampshade assembly is referenced 10 and comprises1 and the kit or parts for it comprises, a boss 12. four arms 14 and four panels 16.
The boss 1-2 is in the general shape of an inverted circular dish with a cupped depression 12a containing a hole 12b for a conventional lamp socket, not shown.
Eight internally screw-threaded hank bushes 12c are wilded, soldered, riveted or otherwise secured to the underside of the boss proper to receive fixing screws for fixing the arms 14. Eight corresponding holes 12d are provided in the boss 12 for the screws.
Each arm 14 comprises two spaced-apart elongate members 14a, 14b curved both in plan (see Fig. 2) and in side elevation (shown partly in Fig. 3). The upper ends 14a, 14b, of members 14a, 14b are welded to a clip 14c secured, or adapted to be secured, to the boss 12 firstly by a screw 18 engaging one of the hank bushes 12c in one place and secondly by a projection 14d of the clip 14c projecting through an aperture 12e in the boss 12 in another place, so that the arm 14 cannot move out of position once the screw 18 has been tightened. There are two decorative balls 14a3 and 14b3 at the bottom ends 14a2 and 14b2 of arms 14a and 14b respectively.
Each arm 14 also comprises a transverse member 14e adjoining the elongate members 14a, 14b, near, but not at, the bottom ends 14a2, 14b2 thereof. A relatively long portion 14e, of transverse member 14e extends from member 14a at the far side of member 14b and is adapted to be alongside an edge of one panel 16, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and has a first clip 14f to engage that panel's edge. A relatively short portion 14e2, of member 14e extends from member 14b at the far side of member 14a and is adapted to meet an edge of another panel 16 substantially end-on, and has a second clip 14g to engage that other panel's edge. An intermediate portion 14e3 extends between portions 14eel and 14e2.
The boss 12 and the arms 14 assemble to form a lampshade frame 22, using screws 18, to receive the panels 16', secured thereto by screws 20 (see below) and clips 14f,g.
Each panel 16 is curved in two planes. A well-rounded top corner portion 16a of the panel has a hole 16b for a screw 20, with a washer 20a, to engage a respective said hank bush 12c to secure the panel 16 to the boss 12. As already mentioned, the clips 14f and 14g of said arms 14, one on either side of the respective panel 16, engage the panel 16, the clips 14f, 14g being bent around the edges of the panel at the time of assembly.
Prior to assembly the four arms 14 can be "rested" one within another, as can the four panels 16, to take up less room in' a packing box (not shown).
The lampshade assembly can be dismantled again if desired.

Claims (11)

Claims
1. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly, comprising: a boss; a plurality of arms made separately from the boss and from each other1 each adapted to be secured to the boss so as to extend generally radially therefrom, to form in combination with the boss and with each other a lampshade frame; and a corresponding plurality of panels made separately from the boss, from the arms and from each other, each adapted to be secured to the lampshade frame to occupy spaces between the arms.
2. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in claim 1 wherein each arm is curved in two planes.
3. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein each panel is curved in two planes.
4. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein each panel is adapted to be secured to the boss.
5. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in claim 4 wherein each panel is adapted to be secured to the boss by a screw -through the panel engaging a hank bush forming part of the boss.
6. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein each arm has one or more clips to engage one or more said panels.
7. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein each arm comprises at least one elongate member adapted to extend generally radially from the boss and a transverse member adjoining and extending both sides of said at least one elongate member, the transverse memeber having means for engaging at least one said panel.
8. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in claim 7 wherein a first portion of said transverse member, on one side of said at least one elongate member, is adapted to lie alongside and engage an edge of one said panel, and wherein a second portion of said transverse member, on another side of said at least one elongate member, is adapted to meet and engage an edge of another panel substantially end-on.
9. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in claim 7 or 8 wherein said at least one elongate member comprises a plurality of spaced apart side-by-side elongate members projecting above and below the adjoining part of said transverse member.
10. A kit of parts of a lampshade assembly as claimed in any preceding claim wherein each arm is adapted to be secured to the boss by a screw engaging a hank bush forming part of the boss in one place and by inter-engaging formations of the arms and the boss at another place.
