Description
TABLET HEATING DEVICE
This invention relates to a device for emanating insect-fighting and deodorant products in tablet form to a motorvehicle, boat, and the like, of a type which comprises an electric heater means adapted to carry and apply heat to a tablet.
It is the object of this invention to provide an insect fighting or repeLLing device which can be readily utilized on motorvehicles or boats.
This object is achieved according to the invention by a device as indicated being characterized in that it comprises a pin electrically connected to said heater means and adapted for plugging into a cigar lighter socket.
Advantageously according to the invention, said heater means is mounted within a body formed integrally with said pin.
Further features and advantages of a device according to this invention will be apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof, to be taken by way of example and not of limitation in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings :
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device according to the invention; and
Figures 2 and 3 are part-sectional plan and side views, respectively, of the device shown in Figure 1.
With reference to the drawing views, the numeral 1 generally designates a device for emanating insect-fighting and deodorant products in a tabLet form known per se and not shown in the drawings by applying heat to the tables.
The device 1 comprises a body 2 of trapezoidal shape which is hollow inside and open at the top to accommodate an electric heater means therein which is generally indicated at 3 and adapted to carry and heat an insect-fighting tablet.
The heater means 3 is composed of a ceramic plate 4 having an electric resistance heater, not shown, mounted therein.
The device 1 further comprises a pin 5 electrically connected to said heater means and adapted to be plugged into a cigar lighter socket of a motorvehicle, boat, and the like, which is known per se and not shown in the drawings.
In particular, the pin 5 comprises a sleeve 6 formed from a thermoplastic material integrally with the body 2 and with two opposed parallel slots 7, 8 extending LongitudinaLLy thereof.
Threaded to a free end of the sleeve 6, provided with mating threads, is a contact holding body 9 wherein a metal pin 10 is mounted which extends axially through the contact holding body 9. The pin 10 is advantageously retractable, against the bias of a spring means, inside the contact holding body 9.
Indicated at 11 is an eye attached to the metal pin 10 inwardly of the sleeve 6, one end 12a being attached to said eye 11 of a wire conductor 12 whose opposite end 12b is connected to the heater means 3.
The pin 5 further comprises a wire spring 13 which is bent substantially into a loop and extends within the sleeve 6; on the spring 13 there are defined two opposite side sections 13a, 13b projecting through their respective slots 7 and 8, and an end section 13c in contact with the heater means 3.
The device 1 is put into operation by placing an insect-fighting tablet on the plate 4 and then plugging in the pin 5, into an electric socket connected to a battery or an equivalent DC source at either 12 or 24 Volts.
The pin 5 is pushed into the socket until the metal pin 10 abuts a contact formed on the socket bottom, usually the positive pole of the system, while the side sections 13a and 13b are in pressure contact with the socket walls, on which the negative pole of the system is usually formed.
Thus, a current is admitted into the device 1 which flows through the heater means 3 to cause the latter to heat the tablet and deliver to the surrounding space the insect repeLLing products contained in it.
The device according to this invention has proved quite practical and effective, conveniently operable on the cigar
Lighter sockets, so widely provided and of a standard type, equipping motorvehicles and. boats.
Advantageously, moreover, this device is compact in size, as well as relatively inexpensive on account of its simple construction.
The device disclosed in the foregoing description is susceptible, of course, to many changes and modifications within the true scope of this invention as set forth in the appended claims.
