Description

TITLE: WINDOW CONDENSATION DRAINER This invention relates to a device for collection of condensation which forms on the interior surface of windows of buildings. The condensation of water formed by contact of warm saturated air with the inside surface of a window which is cold on the exterior is a continuing problem in that the water after running down the surface of the glass pane remains on the horizontal surface of the window frame in small pools. The effect of this is to cause a wooden window frame to rot or in the case of aluminium frames, to oxidize.
Means have been provided in the form of an absorbent strip to lie along the horizontal surface adjacent the bottom of the pane for the purpose of soaking up the water which has condensed. However, the frame surface remains moist since the absorbent strip merely retains the water.
An object of the invention therefore is to provide a device which may readily be positioned on a window pane for collecting and draining the condensation.
According to the invention there is provided a condensation collection device for attachment to the surface of a window pane or to a window frame for contact with a window pane, comprising an elongate support member having front and rear major surfaces, a self-adhesive strip attached to the rear major surface of said support member, a gutter extending from the front major surface, and an outlet in the form of an aperture extending through said gutter to which outlet a pipe may be attached, said gutter being disposed at a small angle (1-5 )of inclination relative to the elongate support member whereby in use condensation which trickles down into the gutter runs along the gutter and passes out through the outlet for disposal.
The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 is a front elevation, FIGURE 2 is an end elevation, and FIGURE 3 is a section taken along the line A-A in Figure 1.
The condensation collection device comprises an elongate support member 10 having front 11 and rear 12 major surfaces, the upper edge terminating in a tapered sealing flap 13 which in the unused condition of the device inclines upwardly and away from the rear major surface 12.
A gutter 14 comprises a ledge 15 having an upstanding edge-piece 16 and is disposed along the support member 10 at a slight inclination thereto. The angle Ct of inclination relative to the upper edge is preferably in the range 1-5 .
At the lower end of the gutter there is provided an aperture 17 forming an outlet passage the exterior of which may be extended by means of a nozzle 18 to which a plastics tube 19 is attached.
The support member 10, the sealing flap 13, the gutter 11 and the nozzle 17 are preferably moulded integrally (e.g. of p. v. 0.
An adhesive plastics layer 20 is provided at the rear major surface 12 together with a removable protective strip 21.
In use the device is trimmed to the width of the window pane and is secured to the surface of the glass after the latter has been thoroughly cleaned. Due to the initial inclination of the sealing flap 13 the latter is flexed against the glass as the device is secured in position.
The tube 19 may be run down a corner of the window frame and led to a container to collect the condensed water.
The device therefore provides a cheap and simple arrangement for preventing deterioration of wooden window frames by rotting, and the need to frequently wipe up excess water from the base of the window and sill.
Fixing of the device is extremely simple.

CLAIMS:
1. A condensation collection device for attachment to the surface of a window pane or to a window frame for contact with a window pane, comprising an elongate support member having front and rear surfaces, a selfadhesive strip attached to the rear surface of said support member, a gutter extending from the front major surface, and an outlet in the form of an aperture extending through said gutter to which outlet a pipe may be attached, said gutter being disposed at a small angle (1-5 ) of inclination relative to the elongate support member whereby in use condensation which trickles down into the gutter runs along the gutter and passes out through the outlet for disposal.
2. A condensation collection device as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the support member is made integral with the gutter.
3. A condensation collection device as claimed in claim l or 2 wherein the upper edge of the support member terminates in a tapered sealing flap which can contact the window pane.
4. A condensation collection device substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
