Thermionic amplifiers. - An electromagnetic sound transmitter or receiver similar to that described in the parent Specification may operate a loud speaker, or scund-recording apparatus, or may control a broadcasting station, through the valve circuits shown in Fig. 6, which permit selective amplification of the low or high notes. The potentials induced in the detector or transmitter are applied to the grid of valve 37, the plate circuit of which includes a resistance 189 and the primary 43 of a transformer, the secondary being connected to the grid of valve 42 and, at will, to the point 190 or 191. A resistance 193 in the plate circuit of valve 42 is adjustably shunted by a condenser 194. The plate circuit of valve 46 is connected by transformer 45, 54 to a power valve 47. Valve 37 amplifies uniformly the lower harmonics but increase or diminishes the higher harmonics according to the transformer connections. Valve 42 amplifies the bass notes more than the treble, while valve 46 increases the value of the harmonics in direct proportion to their frequency. A condenser or inductance mav also be connected across part of the resistance 189. Specification 186,658 also is referred to.
