Abstract
220,286. Elevator Supplies Co., Inc., (Assignees of Bassett. C.W.). Aug. 8, 1923, Convention date]. Switches, quick-action.-A lock and switch for elevator doors is constructed so that slight play of the door in locked position due to wear and loose fitting, will not interfere with the efficiency of the switch. The door is provided with a vertically sliding bar 20 carrying the fastener as a right-angled bevelled horizontal projection made of non-conducting material with a metallic roller 18 loosely turning on the pin 30 as shown in Fig. 5. When the door is closed, the bevelled face 53 of the fastening rides up the curved face 56 of the casing 11 of the switch until the shoulder 54 is clear, and then drops by gravity between the spring blades 14, 16 of the switch, fastening the door and closing the switch. The blades 14, 16 of the switch are each composed of two or more laminae riveted together and are secured to an insulating block 2 with a convex base and curved sides. When the door is fastened and the roller 18 is making contact between the blades 14, 16, slight movements of the door do not affect the contact owing to the loose mounting of the roller and the freedom of movement of the block 2 by reason of its shape. The block is secured in the casing by flanges 8 entering grooves 4, 6. Depressions 5 are. formed in the bottom of the block for the heads of the rivets securing the plate, carrying the flanges 8. Grooves 60, 62, 64 in the block between the blades 14, 16 catch metallic particles rubbed off the blades and prevent the possibility of a layer of such particles causing a short-circuit. Blades 50 in the casing 11 guide the fastening into the casing. Release is effected by lifting the rod 20 until the shoulder 54 is clear of the part 56 of the casing, the roller 18 being then also clear of the switch blades.
