Electrically - controlled fastenings ; sliding bolts. -Locks, for railway levelcrossing gates, of the kind shown in Specification 265,694 have an electrically-controlled catch 5 which automatically engages a notch 4 in the sliding-bolt 3 when the gate is shut and the bolt shot home. The catch 5 passes through a slot 10 in the socket 11 and is pivoted to a lever 7 which carries the armature 8 of the electromagnet 9 and a contact 31 engaging a contact 32 when the catch is home. The bolt or the catch may be bevelled so that the catch is lifted when the bolt is shot home, and in that position the bolt closes the contacts 16, 17. A weighted lever 12 may be used to raise the catch, and the lever may have a tail 12a engaged by the bolt to allow the catch to drop into its recess or to free the armature from the magnet. The bolt may have several notches 4b, Fig. 3, engaged by a tooth 5<a> on the lever 7a. The button 39 closes contacts 36, 37, Fig. 5, in a circuit containing the contact 43 of the cabin switch, the indicator 15 being in parallel with the current-saving switch 44 of the magnet lock 40 of the king lever.
