Abstract

Soap dish of the kind in which a cake of soap is held edgeways within the grooves of fork-shaped holding members projecting from a base 1, comprises two such members 2, 4 near two opposite sides of the base and a third member 3 arranged centrally. The base may have suckers (5) for adhering to a bearing surface and an upward projecting edge (6) for retaining water inside the dish. <IMAGE>

Description

Th-prsnt invention concerns a soap dish, of the kind arranged to hold edgeways a cake of soap.
In soap dishes of this kind, the cake of soap is held near its ends in two fork-shaped holding members proejecting from a base. Yet these dishes can hold soapswhose sizes are at-least the same,,,as the distance bet ween the holding members: consequently the holding action is no longer efficient if the. cake size is initially smaller than such distance, or becomes so due to the -use.
To obviate these drawbacks, a soap dish is provided which comprises, besides the two usual fork-shaped members, a third fork-shaped holding member intermediate between the other two members.
In this way a same soap dish may be used for cakes of different sizes (for instance washing-soaps or toiletsoaps) and the cakes of soap can be held upright even after their sizes have reduced due to the use to less than the distance between the extreme holding members.
Advantageously, the bottom of the groove of the intermediate fork-shaped member is at a lower level than that of the other fork-shaped members: this makes it easier to hold soaps whose shape is not substantially parallelepipedal or becomes so due to the use.
According to another feature of' the invention, the fork-shaped holding members project from a base whose bottom surface is provided with suckers for the fastening to a baring surface, and such a base exhibits an upward projecting edge. along its perimeter to retain water.
The invention will be better explained with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which: - Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention; and - Figs. 2 and 3 are transversal and longitudinal sectional views.
As shown in Fig. 1, the soap dish according to the invention comprises a base 1, for instance of rectangular shape and three fork-shaped holding members 2, 3, 4 projecting from the upper surface thereof and intended to hold edgeways the cake of soap placed in their grooves.
Two such members are located near the minor sides of the base, whereas the third one is located substantially at the centre of base 1.
The grooves (Figs. 1 and 2) have substantially triangular cross-section in their lower portion, whereas in the upper portion the inner groove surfaces are substantially parallel.
Moreover, the groove bottom in central fork-shaped member 3 lies at an height lower than that of the other two grooves, as shown in Fig. 3. As said, this makes easier to hold soaps which are thicker in their central portion, as it is typical of certain cakes of toilet soap or may occur with the use.
The bottom surface of base 1 is provided with suckers 5 (Figs. 2 and 3) for adhering to a bearing plane and is provided along its perimeter with an upward projectting edge 6 for keeping water inside the holder.
It is evident that the soap dish meets the requirements set forth: in effect, a cake of soap whose size is or becomes such that the cake can no longer abut on the outer holding members, will be held by one of these and by the central member. The grooves moreover are so shaped as to provide a positive holding action whatever the shape of the cake of soap may be.
