Abstract

The snooker game which comprises a snooker table, a plurality of red balls and a number of different coloured balls is played using a pair of dice, one die of the pair having five blank faces and the numeral 1 on its remaining face and the other die having numerals 1 to 6 on respective faces. Throwing the dice after potting of a red ball dictates the particular coloured ball to be played.

Description

"Snooker Game" This invention relates to a snooker game. The invention also relates to a novel pair of dice for playing the snooker game of the invention.
According to the present invention there is provided a snooker game comprising a snooker table, the plurality of red balls and a number of different coloured balls having associated values, and a pair of snooker dice, one of the pair having five blank faces and the numeral 1 on its remaining face, and the other of the pair having the numerals 1 to 6 on respective faces.
Further according to the present invention there is provided a pair of dice for playing a snooker game, one of the pair having five blank faces and the numeral 1 on its remaining face, and the other of the pair having the numerals 1 to 6 on respective faces.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described; by way of example only.
The game is suitable for play by professionals on television, or as an entertaining and skillful game for two or more persons, or all of the family.
The game is played with a "special" set of dice known as "snooker dice". The dice are numbered such that when thrown, their aggregates will total between 1 and 7, i.e.
one = red, two = yellow, three = green, four = brown, five = blue, six = pink and seven = black.
More specifically, one of the dice of the pair has five blank faces and the numeral 1 on its remaining face, and the other of the pair has the numerals 1 to 6 on respective faces.
When only two players are playing, both throw the pair of dice and the player with the highest number then elects to play the cue (white) ball and break or may ask the other player to break.
If "teams" are playing, one member from each team throws the pair of dice. The thrower of the highest number then elects to break or asks opponent to break.
A time limit is set for all "shots" such that a player must play within thirty seconds of the previous ball(s) coming to rest.
If snooker dice rules do not cover play regular snooker rules prevail.
The player who plays first to "break" after initial "high" throw of dice must play a red ball and ensure that the white cue ball returns to baulk i.e. below the line from whence he first played. This rule applies only on the occasion when the first player plays to break. On this occasion only, failure to get the cue ball in baulk, gives the opponent four points and the opponent may once more elect to play or nominate defaulting player to try again.
Should the player who plays first to "break", miss the reds he loses four points and must play again until he finally hits the red and places cue ball back in baulk.
The players then play to pot a red ball. The first player to pot a red ball then throws the pair of snooker dice. He then must play the colour shown by the dice, i.e. five = blue.
If the player misses the blue, the opponent receives five points and takes over play and attempts to pot a red ball.
However, if the first player pots the blue ball, he receives five points and then attempts (without throwing dice) to pot a further red. Should the player pot a red, he then throws the pair of dice and plays the colour shown by the pair of dice i.e. seven = black. The player continues to play in this manner until he fails to pot a ball.
If after potting a red, the player throws dice and number is "one" he gets a free ball-and may play any ball and score the number of points normally scored from such ball i.e.
red = one, brown = four, etc.
The player or a team with most points at the end of the game wins. The game may be played to conclusion i.e. all balls potted or to a time limit i.e. half an hour, an hour; etc.
Modifications and improvements may be incorporated without departing from the scope of the invention.
