Arrangements of hand and foot gear in conjunction with controlling-apparatu.-Relates to front wheel brake operating-devices for motor vehicles consisting in a bell-crank lever mounted on the front axle and adapted to actuate an arm on the cam-shaft through a link that allows turning movement of the arm relatively to the lever in steering without causing application of the brakes, the arrangement being such that the link is always under tension during the application of the brakes. The bell-crank lever. of which the arm 7 is connected by a wire or chain to a brake lever or pedal, and the arm 26 is arranged to rock an arm 28 fast on a stud 29 carrying a cam 30 for operating the shoes 35 that with a link 36 and restoring spring 37 constitute the brake system coacting with the internal surface of a brake drum 34 attached to the hub of a front wheel (not shown), is mounted on a short shaft 23 carried in a bracket 24 depending from the dead axle 25 carrying the front wheels. Between the brake-operating arm 26 of the bell-crank lever and the rock-arm 28 of the brake cam is the tension link 27, so positioned that the maximum turning-movement in steering will not cause the link to move the rock-arm through an angle sufficient to cause appreciable movement of the brake shoes. The link ends in part-spherical bosses, engaging spherical seatings in the arms that it connects, for permitting freedom in movement. Specification 217,005, [Class 103 (i), Brakes &c.], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 172,943.
