Description
219795 Arrangement in en engine powered machine, e.g. a claering saw,
provided with a frame tube The present invention relates to an arrangement in an engine powered machine having a so-called frame tube - e.g. a clearing saw - where one end of the frame tube is connected with the combustion engine while the other end has a tool, and where the frame tube includes a drive shaft transmitting the drive power from the engine to the tool.
Such machines are previously known and used, for instance, when clearing away bushes and other vegitation in the wood. The machine is then applied on a harness carried by the operator in such a way that the combustion engine is abreast of the waist whereas the frame tube is extended downwards ahead towards the ground. Furthermore, the machine is equipped with a handle applied to the upper part of the frame tube and is operated by means of that handle. The exhaust fumes from the combustion engine pass through an exhaust pipe on the engine with the result that the fumes are let out close to the breathing organe of the operator which, of course, is very unsatisfactory as far as the working environment is concerned. Moreover, the proximity between the noise source and the ears of the operator means that the ears are exposed to an intensive noise.
The present invention aims at a creating of an improved working environment to the operator which is reached by an arrangement having the characteristics according to claim 1.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings where Fig. 1 constitutes a perspective view of a machine on which the present invention is intended to be applied and Fig. 2 constitutes a longitudinal section through part of the machine according to Fig. 1.
As evident from Fig. 1 the machine consists of a combustion engine 10 being fixed at the upper part of a frame tube 11 which also has a handle 12 by which the arrangement can be operated. The lower part of the frame tube carries a tool 13 which here consists of a saw blade whose connection and disconnection as well as its speed of rotation is controlled by operating devices positioned on the handle but not especially illustrated. The machine is during operation carried by a harness which is not either illustrate,'.
The frame tube contains a drive shaft 14 transmitting the drive power from engine 10 to the tool 13 via an angle gear 15. Then the shaft is journalled in several bearings 16, 17, 18 of the frame tube. The bearings 16 and 18 consists of conventicinall slide bearings which also serve as tightening between the interior of the frame tube and the engine 10, and the angle gear 15 respectively, while more intermediate bearings 17 have a number of vents 19 connecting two or more chambers 20 and 21, formed in the frame tube, with each other.
The upper part of the frame tube has an inlet opening 22 to which an exhaust pipe 23, from the engine is connected by means of a fastening sleeve 24. The lower part of the frame tube has a number of outlet openings 25 connecting the chamber 20 with the atmosphere.
The arrangement operates as follows:
The exhaust fumes from the combustion engine 10 are conducted through the exhaust tube 23 and the opening 22 into the chamber 21 in the upper part of the frame tube. The exhaust fumes then stream downwards in the frame tube and pass via the vents 19 of the bearing 17 into the chamber 20 from which they continue to the atmosphere through the outlet openings 25.
By choosing a suitable size of the outlet openings 25, a suitable number of intermediate bearings 17, a suitable distance between the bearings 17, 18, 19 and a suitable size of the vents 19 of the bearing 17, the clearing saw can be so designed that the best possible noise reduction and the lowest possible back pressure will be obtained.
