Abstract

A device for cleaning thin articles e.g. the slats of venetian blinds comprises a support body 10 provided with fingers 13 between which the slats may be placed and cleaned by relative sliding motion. Both the support body and fingers may be hollow, and a swivelling adaptor 20 for attachment to a vacuum cleaner may be mounted on the support body. Each finger may be surrounded with a furry material 18. <IMAGE>

Description

CLEANING DEVICE This invention relates to a cleaning device and its object is to provide a device specially suitable for cleaning thin articles particularly Venetian blinds.
According to the invention we provide a support carrying a plurality of fingers adjacent to one another so that they can be placed on a thin article with the article between two adjacent fingers and the latter can slide along the article to clean it.
The support and fingers may be hollow and the support may include an adaptor for attachment to a vacuum cleaner.
The fingers may be made of solid material covered with a soft dusting material e.g a textile base carrying fibres on its exterior side.
The invention will be further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings wherein: FIGURE 1 is a plan view of a device made in accordance with the invention; FIGURE 2 is a side view of the device; FIGURE 3 is an end view of the support on the direction of the arrow 3 on Figure 1 but without the fingers; FIGURES 4,5 and 6 are a plan, section (on plane A-A on Figure 4) and end view of the adaptor; and FIGURES 7 and 8 a plan view and side view of one finger.
The support 10 is hollow and of approximately triangular shape, with a straight front side, curved other sides and rounded at the apex. It has a much greater width at its finger side than depth and is hollow. At its front side it is provided with four openings 11 to receive spigots 12 on fingers 13. The spigots have projections 16 serving as resilient catches to hold the fingers in place. The fingers are hollow and are flat on two opposite sides and curved on the other sides, the curvatures on the two sides having their radial centre or centres on the same side of the finger. One curve continues with a smaller radius over the top of the finger. Both curved sides are provided with openings 17 communicating with the hollow interior. Each finger is surrounded on its curved sides and top with a piece of soft material 18 having a base sheet stuck to the finger, and a furry material on the outside of the base sheet. The fingers are spaced apart a distance such that the furry material of one finger touches the furry material of the adjacent finger so that the slat of a venetian blind can enter bet#een adjacent fingers.
The support 10 has an opening at its apex to receive a hollow adaptor 20 which is shaped suitably for attachment to a vacuum cleaner. The adaptor has two opposed circular recesses 21, 22 which engage circular projections inside the apex of the suport 10 whereby the adaptor can be swivell;ed to one or other of two or more positions located by a recess 24 in the adaptor engaging projections within the apex of the support 10.

Claims (10)

1. A cleaning device comprising a support body, and a plurality of fingers extending from said support body, said fingers being disposed adjacent one another so that they can be placed on at least one sheet article with the sheet article between two adjacent fingers, whereby the latter can be moved to slide along the article to clean both major surfaces thereof simultaneously.
2. A device as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said fingers are each provided with curved opposed surfaces, the curvatures on the two sides having their radial centre or centres on the same side of the finger, whereby the device is suitable for cleaning curved strips of Venetian blinds.
3. A device as claimed in Claim 2, wherein said curved opposed surfaces are provided with openings communicating with the hollow interior.
4. A device as claimed in Claim 2 or 3, wherein each finger is covered on its curved sides with soft material having a base sheet stuck to the surface of the finger and furry material on the exterior surface of the base sheet.
5. A device as claimed in Claim 2, 3 or 4, wherein the fingers are spaced apart such that the furry material of one finger touches the furry material of the adjacent finger.
6. A device as claimed in any one of claims 1-5, wherein said support body is formed with a straight front side having openings to receive spigots formed on said fingers which are detachable.
7. A device as claimed in Claim 6, wherein the support body and fingers are hollow.
8. A device as claimed in Claim 7, wherein the body is provided with an adaptor for connection of the device to a vacuum cleaner.
9. A device as claimed in Claim 8, wherein said adaptor is provided with two opposed circular recesses which engage circular projections inside the end of the support body remote from the fingers, whereby the adaptor can be swivelled to one of a plurality of positions in relation to said body.
10. A cleaning device as claimed in Claim 1 substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
