Hair-clippers.-A mechanically-operated safety razor comprises a member formed from two serrated end discs b, Figs. 1 and 2, connected by blades e secured in place by screws, such member being pivoted upon members l, carrying a guard k by screws h, and being rotated through bevels j<1>, j by a flexible cable i driven e.g. from an electric motor suspended by its conducting wires from a suitable plug. The guard-carrying members l are adjusted with reference to the blade-carrying member bv means of screws n engaging turned-over ends l<1> of the members l, the screws h carrying the rotating member being carried by lugs m mounted rigidly on a bridge-piece. The rotating member may in some cases carry only two blades, as shown in Fig. 5; in further alternatives, the blades c are carried in recesses in a solid cylinder, the blades being either as shown in Fig. 2, or being arranged helically. In the latter case, the blades in the two halves may be arranged in opposite directions, as shown in Fig. 7. The blades may also be fixed in grooves in the cylinder by wedge-shaped plates of soft metal. The blades may be perpendicular to the cylinder or may be arranged approximately tangentially. The blade-carrying member may be reversed in its pivots for stropping.
