Abstract

The rolling mill has a roll stand (2) preceded by a stretch-bending device (3) in which only the middle roll (5) is adjustable with respect to the path of the metal strip (1), the two outer stretch-bending rolls (4, 6) being fixed in position, and the setting device (7) for the middle stretch-bending roll is attached to the roll stand. In this way, the complex stretch-bending stand otherwise required becomes superfluous. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Rolling mill for processing metal strip This invention relates to a rolling mill for the processing of metal strip, having a roll stand, a stretch-bending device with at least three stretch-bending rolls preceding the roll stand, and a setting device for the stretch-bending device, in which the metal strip undergoing treatment is passed over stretch-bending rolls on alternating sides and the middle stretchbending roll deflects the metal strip in the course of the stretch-bending process.
The stretch-bending device in rolling mills of this type is usually designed as an entire stretch-bending stand in which the middle stretch-bending roll occupies a fixed position, and the settings of the two outer stretchbending rolls are adjusted so that in effect the middle stretch-bending roll deflects the metal strip to a prescribed extent or at a prescribed contact-arc angle. Systems of this nature are extremely sensitive, because a change in the setting of one stretch-bending roll brings about a change in the contact-arc angle of the other adjustable stretch-bending roll, so that every adjustable stretch-bending roll must be positioned exactly in conformity with the other adjustable stretch-bending roll. This requires complicated position-control equipment.Apart from that, a stretch-bending stand having a setting device covering the two stretch-bending rolls is relatively complicated and bulky.
The object of the invention is to provide a rolling mill of the type originally described in which the stretch-bending device is outstandingly simple in design, functionally reliable and compact.
According to the present invention, only the middle stretch-bending roll is adjustable by means of the setting device, the two outer stretch-bending rolls being mounted in fixed bearings and setting device being attached to the roll stand. The invention arises primarily from the discovery that the adjustment of only one, namely the middle, stretch-bending roll between two fixed-position stretch-bending rolls is sufficient to produce a flat metal strip.
For each strip tension, each strip thickness, and each yield point of the strip material, there is a specific position of the middle roll at which the initial bending by the first fixedposition stretch-bending roll is reversed until the metal strip becomes straight once again.
Since the teaching of the invention provides for a stretch-bending device having only one adjustable stretch-bending roll, it is no longer necessary to use the hitherto inevitably complex stretch-bending stand; in fact, the setting device for the relevant stretch-bending roll can be mounted on the roll stand. This leads to a simple and space-saving layout. Moreover, satisfactory functioning is ensured.
Further significant features of the invention will now be described. Thus, the setting device may have a boom for the adjustable stretch-bending roll, swivellably journalled on the roll stand, and an actuator linked to the boom, the actuator being linked to a jib mounted on the roll stand. In this way, the entire stretch-bending device can be attached directly to the roll stand, and the various deflections of strips by the middle stretchbending roll are attained by varying the boom angle setting. In this case, the jib can carry the pivot for the boom, and the boom actuator can consist of a cylinder-and-piston unit.
Rolling mills usually have a deflection roll preceding the stretch-bending device. The invention recognises that this deflection roll can also act as a stretch-bending roll, and accordingly it provides that the first stretch-bending roll to be encountered is adapted to act as a deflection roll. The final stretch-bending roll, which like the first stretch-bending or deflection roll is fixed in position, can be journalled in a bracket on the roll stand, so that even in respect of the fixed-position bending rolls the independent stretch-bending stand hitherto required now becomes superfluous.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, purely by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows part of a rolling mill having a roll stand and a stretch-bending device, with broken lines showing the initial position of part of the adjustable stretch-bending device.
The rolling mill shown is intended for the processing of metal strip 1 and has a roll stand 2, a stretch-bending device 3 with three stretch-bending rolls 4, 5, 6 preceding the roll stand 2, and a setting device 7. The metal strip 1 undergoing treatment is passed over the stretch-bending rolls 4, 5, 6 on alternating sides. The middle stretch-bending roll 5 deflects the metal strip 1 in the course of the stretch-bending process. Only this middle stretch-bending roll 5 is adjustable with respect to the metal strip 1. The two outer stretch-bending rolls 4, 6 occupy fixed positions. The setting device 7 is attached to the roll stand 2. It has a boom 8 for the adjustable stretch-bending roll 5, swivellably jour nalled on the roll stand 2, and an actuator 9 linked to the boom 8. The actuator 9 is linked to a jib 10 mounted on the roll stand 2. The jib 10 carries a pivot 11 for the boom 8. The actuator 9 for the boom 8 consists of a cylinder-and-piston unit. The first stretch bending roll 4 is adapted to act as a deflection roll in the essential manner. The final stretch-bending roll 6 is supported by a bracket 12 on the roll stand 2, and/or journalled over the said bracket 12.
