Description

SPECIFICATION
A method of producing a mounting plate 1 -. 45 GB2195486A 1 The present invention relates to a method of producing a so called mounting plate for use - for an advertising signboard and the like, and which is intended for showing a pattern of letters and/or figures, being in a contrasting colour to that of the remaining portion of the 75 mounting plate, and which has contours con sisting of a fluorescent plastic material.
Advertising plates are previously known with a pattern provided by self-adhering col oured film which was transferred to said plate by the aid of masking tape, and where the pattern is applied to the plate after removal of a waxed underlaying paper. The transfer tape is removed and the pattern is now adhered to the plate. Illumination of the pattern is either effected directly on the front in case of non transparent plates, or from the rear in case of transparent plates.
The above mentioned technique which, inter alia, comprises cutting the pattern in a sepa rate location with subsequent transference to a plate, etc. requires several time consuming operations. Correct application of the pattern on the plate, furthermore, often requires a high degree of accuracy which may represent 95 a problem.
The present invention differs essentially from the known technique as described above, and the sole common factor is, indeed, that self-adhering film is used in both cases to 100 form the pattern to be mounted on the sign boa rd/mounting plate. It was, thus, not an immediate object of the present invention to eliminate the disadvantage of the known tech nique, but the invention, in fact, and rather unintentionally, resulted in a mounting p^rocess of the pattern on the plate that is much more simple than previously.
The present invention relates to a method of producing a mounting plate for use as an advertising signboard and the like, and which plate is provided with a pattern of letters and or figures in a colour contrasting with the re maining portion of the mounting plate, which mounting plate is illuminated all over by LIV light. The method is essentially characterized by the fact that the mounting plate is, at least in the area where the pattern is to appear, covered with a self-adhering coloured film, whereafter grooves forming the contour of the pattern are engraved according to the desired pattern through said film and into the surface of the mounting plate proper, and whereafter the coloured film lying outside the formed figures is removed and flourescent plastic ma terial is placed in said grooves.
Further characterizing features of the method will appear from the following claims.
Below the invention is disclosed in more de tail by reference to an embodiment by way of example in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein:- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mounting plate 1 povided with a self- adhering col- cured film 2 on one surface; Figure 2 is a perspective view showing the plate according to Fig. 1, but with engraved grooves 3 forming the contours of a pattern; and Figure 3 is a perspective view of the plate according to Fig. 2, but where the portions of the coloured film 2 not belonging to the pattern are removed, and where fluorescent resilient plastic tubular material 4 is placed in said grooves.
The following method of producing a mounting plate for use as an advertising signboard and the like, which plate has a pattern of letters and/or figures or other charac- ters or symbols in a colour contrasting with that of the remaining portion of the mounting plate, and which is suitably to be illuminated by W-light, is exemplary of the invention.
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings, there is shown a mounting plate 1 provided with a self-adhering coloured film 2 on one surface. The film 2 extends over at least the area of the plate where the pattern is to appear, and as shown the coloured film 2 is provided over the whole of the one surface of the mounting plate. Grooves 3 forming the contour of the pattern are then engraved through the film 2 and into the mounting plate 1 proper, as shown in Fig. 2. After engraving the grooves, the coloured film 2 lying outside the pattern formed e.g. of letters or figures as defined by the grooves 3 is removed and fluorescent plastic material 4 is placed in the grooves 3, as shown in Fig. 3, to produce the finished mounting plate. The fluorescent material 4 is preferably resilient plastic tubing.
Claims (4)
1. A method of producing a mounting plate for use as an advertising signboard and the like, said mounting plate having a pattern of letters and/or figures in a colour contrasting with the remaining portion of the mounting plate, and which mounting plate is illuminated by UV-Iight, characterized in that mounting plate is, at least in the area where the pattern is to appear, provided with a self-adhering coloured film, whereupon grooves forming the contour of the pattern are engraved in accor- dance with the desired pattern through said film and into the mounting plate proper, that the coloured film lying outside the formed figures is removed and that fluorescent plastic material is placed in said grooves.
2. A method as defined in Claim 1, characterized in that one surface of mounting plate is entirely covered with self-adhering coloured film.
3. A method as claimed in Claims 1-2, characterized in that a tubular, resilient ma- 2 GB2195486A 2 terial is used as the fluorescent plastic material.
4. A method of producing a mounting plate for use as an advertising signboard and the like, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
