Abstract

219,498. Copeland, R. J. July 30, 1923. Covers.-A book cover comprises a thin sheet 1, of vulcanized fibre surrounding and lapped over the edges of a rigid core, the doubled edges of the sheet reinforcing the cover. The sheet is lapped over the top and bottom edges 2 of the cover and may also be lapped over the front edge 3 and hinge edge 12, the sheet being shaped so that its lapped-over edges form a flush surface on the inner side of the cover; or a reinforcing strip 11 of vulcanized fibre may be arranged at the front edge and hinge strips 12 at the hinge edge. The core may comprise rigid channel-shaped metal strips filled with cardboard 6 and separated by millboard strips 7, the strips 5, 7 being held together at their ends by rigid U-shaped strips 8 of metal or vulcanized fibre, and being covered by sheets 9 of tough material, such as vulcanized fibre, forming a flush surface with the strips 8. The sheet 1 is secured to the core by cement and rivets 10. Specification 195,459 is referred to.
